Summary

  • Super Saiyan 4 introduced in Daima may explain absence in Super due to lack of tails.
  • Neva’s magic likely awakens dormant traits in Saiyans, possibly including tail growth.
  • Next Daima episodes to delve into SSJ4 transformation explanation, potential sequels.

Dragon Ball Daima Episode 18 brought a huge surprise to fans and presented Super Saiyan 4 as a canon form. As the series is heading towards its final moments, fans are excited about what’s coming next, but are also wondering the reason why Goku and the others haven’t transformed into SSJ4 in Dragon Ball Super.

Fans have created many theories that would explain why SSJ4 wasn’t featured in Super, which is supposed to take place after Daima (but now it could appear in upcoming chapters of the manga) – some of them include this transformation somehow only being possible in the Demon Realm.

Here’s everything you need to know about where and when to watch the next episode of Dragon Ball DAIMA.

Many fans noticed that the transformation happened after Neva used some magic on Goku – and this fan pointed out that his magic gave Goku a new tail:

So, looking at the SSJ4 transformation, it seems that Neva’s magic has two parts.

The first is awakening something inside Goku.

The second is to create a tail from nothing. You see how it materialized from a bubble.

The implication for me is that, like in GT, the tail is needed for that transformation and without Neva to create a tail, Goku can’t do that transformation again.

That aligns perfectly with Super. Goku knows he has a transformation that he can’t use unless he grows a tail, but his tail won’t grow anymore, so nothing he can do.

It also makes it so, at any point in the future, they can make it so he’s able to recover his tail and get this transformation again.

What Is The Super Saiyan 4 Form?

Super Saiyan 4 is different from previous transformations, as it is also an advanced form of the Great Ape – or at least, that’s how it is in Dragon Ball GT. When Goku is turned into a kid in GT, his tail is back, so he is able to transform into the Great Ape and the Golden Great Ape.

However, in Daima none of the Saiyans get their tails back when they are transformed into kids. So, giving Goku a tail only for a moment would not only follow what was established in DBGT, but would also explain why they won’t turn into SSJ in Super: they can’t, as they don’t have their tails anymore.

Other fans disagree, as they think that the tail is a part of the transformation, not a condition for it to happen:

Another one pointed out that Goku’s belt could have been turned into a tail by Neva:

I actually think Goku’s belt gets turned into the tail. His blue belt is gone after the transformation and during the transformation there’s an animation that looks like a belt unwinding from a spiral then transforming into a tail.

What’s Next for Dragon Ball Daima?

The next episode will be out on February 21 (Friday), and it is expected that they will explain how and why Goku turned into SSJ4 in the episode – but maybe this explanation could only come in Episode 20, which will be released on February 28. Given that Episode 18 trended on social media, the next two episodes are also likely to become hot topics.

So far, it seems there are no plans for a Daima sequel, so the series will end and, if there is any sequel, it will be announced at a later date – producer Akio Iyuko stated that Daima is not part of the franchise’s 40th anniversary celebrations, so another anime might be announced soon.

Dragon Ball Daima is available on Crunchyroll and Hulu. Episodes are added to Netflix (and other services around the world) a week later.
