Summary

  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Disney World are switching from virtual queues to standby lines on February 25.
  • This change allows guests more flexibility in planning their day without rushing to grab a boarding group.

Starting February 25, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will transition from a virtual queue system to traditional standby lines, allowing guests to wait in line like most other attractions at Walt Disney World. This news comes months after Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland stopped using its virtual queue on December 10, 2024.

Since their openings, both Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at Walt Disney World have operated exclusively with a virtual queue. This system required guests to secure a boarding group at 7 AM or 1 PM through the My Disney Experience app or purchase Lightning Lane access to guarantee a ride. Without securing a spot in the virtual queue, visitors risk missing out entirely, making early morning wake-ups a necessity for those hoping to ride.

By switching to standby queues, guests will now have more flexibility in planning their park day, as they won’t need to worry about rushing to grab a boarding group at specific times. This change, which will begin on February 25, has been highly requested by visitors who prefer a more traditional way of experiencing Disney’s most in-demand rides. With both Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind being some of the most popular at their respective parks, the shift to standby queues will likely bring longer wait times, but it also ensures that everyone has the opportunity to ride, rather than relying on luck or precise timing.

Disney World Eliminates Virtual Queue For Two Major Attractions

Once the change takes effect, Disney World will no longer utilize virtual queues for any attraction, marking the first time in years that all rides will operate exclusively through standby lines or Lightning Lane access. However, for those looking to avoid long waits, paid Lightning Lane options will still be available. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT will continue to offer Lightning Lane Single Pass purchases, while Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom will be part of Lightning Lane Multi Pass, allowing guests to reserve multiple attractions in advance. A similar transition happened with TRON Lightcycle / Run, which opened in April 2023 and maintained a virtual queue for over a year before finally introducing a standby line in September 2024.

While there will no longer be any operating virtual queues come February 25, Disney has left the door open for virtual queues to return in the future. In a statement shared with Mickey Blog, the company clarified, “Virtual queues continue to be helpful with the launch of popular attractions and the debut of new experiences and offerings, so we may use them again from time to time for select experiences in the future.”

Disney has also revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, which is considered a must-ride at Disney World, will soon be included in EPCOT’s Early Entry lineup, which is the selection of attractions available to Disney resort guests who take advantage of Early Theme Park Entry. This benefit allows guests staying at Disney-owned hotels and select partner resorts to enter the park 30 minutes before official opening and experience select rides with shorter wait times before the general public is admitted.
