Soon after settling in Kuttenberg in the second half of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s grand narrative, you’ll find yourself tasked with getting the gang back together, the gang in question being the morally gray members of the Dry Devil’s gang on behalf of Zizka.

The person who motivates this quest line is Kubyenka, a drunk, who at first might seem like a lazy stereotype, who quickly becomes a loveable recurring member of the cast. While he continuously features throughout the mid/late-game of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, his highlight is trailing after his hazy memories while looking for buried Pistoles in the woods.

Godwin

For most of your playthrough of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 you’ll be controlling Henry, but there will be a few shorter, more linear story missions where you’re instead in control of Godwin.

While a lot of the characters you meet during this section are quite unlikeable, a clear exception to this is Musa of Mali. Blamed for the murder in the camp, Henry has to work with the healer to clear his name, while the pair form an unlikely alliance. It seems like Musa might be a one-off character based on his introduction, that’s why it’s so rewarding to see him a few more times throughout the story after this.

Adder

All of the Dry Devil’s group of bandits are fun characters, but perhaps one of the most enjoyable to watch is Adder. On his quest to reunite the group of characters, Henry will need to save Adder moments before getting hanged for being caught sleeping with another man’s wife.

This is far from the most chaotic situation Adder will find himself in throughout the rest of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s story, but what makes him so fun to watch in each of the scenes is his language barrier. Even though most of the characters don’t understand the Polish that Adder exclusively speaks, the game translates him with subtitles, leading to some hilarious one-sided conversations.

Katherine

One of the first new characters you’ll see early on in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is Katherine, but it’ll take a while for you to truly get to know her. Katherine repeatedly pops up in places where you wouldn’t expect her for the first half of the game, and it will take until about the halfway point to learn where her true allegiances lie.

By the time you get to properly meet Katherine, you’re on the same side, and you’ll end up helping her out with various undercover missions. In spite of needing to be incognito most of the time, she never lets up on her bold personality, making her one of the more interesting love interests for Henry in the game.

Samuel

For a lot of the story quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it feels like you’re constantly meeting new characters and making connections to help Henry on his path through the campaign. Some are important, some aren’t, so when Henry quite hurriedly meets Samuel in the Jewish quarter, it doesn’t seem like he’ll be a particularly relevant character, but that really couldn’t be further from the truth.

The last main romance option for Henry you’ll meet in the main story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is Rosa Ruthard, daughter of a nobleman who proves she’s far more capable than her status would initially imply. While it may seem like she only has passing relevance in the story, she sticks around for a good few quests, giving Henry optional tasks and chances to get to know her even better.

Rosa has plenty of memorable scenes throughout all of her quests, but her best is the pivotal moment in her relationship with Henry where our protagonist helps her finish a story in her book. The task gives you equal chances for flirting or humour depending on how you want your relationship with her to develop.

Hans Capon

As the character who would arguably be the protagonist in most other games, it’s no wonder that Henry’s frequent partner in crime and the man he’s dutifully bound to serve and protect, Hans Capon, is such a fun and charismatic character to watch.

Hans dips in and out of the story, with his tumultuous relationship with Henry put under strain in the first half of the game. But that makes it all the more satisfying to watch it build back up in the second act. It’s rewarding to see how a relationship that already had so much attention in the first game is given new depth in the second. Similarly to Rosa, but with even more time to work on, you can influence how Henry’s relationship with Hans develops, staying platonic, or shifting to an easily believable romantic destination.

Feeling Quite Hungry

Henry tied to a post in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

For large open-world games, it sometimes feels like we’re always stuck with blank-slate protagonists who we can project onto ourselves. That’s why Henry is such a refreshing main character, with heaps of believable personality to watch develop throughout the game.

Even though Henry is a generally agreeable character, and you can influence his actions with dialogue options, he still feels enjoyable as his own character. Part of why he works so well is his fantastic voice-acting, with not one line left mute. Most open-world games would be a lot more fun to play if they all had leads as personable and entertaining as Henry.
