Engwithan Cuirass

Regenerate Health And Attacks Will Restore Essence

• Location: DLC (Premium Edition)

The Engwithan Cuirass can only be obtained by getting the game via the Premium Edition, allowing players to play it early. It’s a fancy-looking piece of armor compared to other starters in the game. It’s heavy though so it’s hard to move in.

It does have the bonus of restoring HP in Avowed once players hit a certain threshold and restoring Essence via attacks. Essence is used to cast magic so it’s odd to put it on heavy armor, weighing down would-be mages.

Obsidian Order Cuirass

Increase Health And Companions Deal More Damage

• Type: Heavy
• Location: DLC (Premium Edition)

The Obsidian Order Cuirass is another piece of DLC tied to the Premium Edition and is also heavier to carry. It’s a celebration of Obsidian Entertainment as a company with some useful abilities attached. It can increase HP while wearing it and Companions with the player will get a boost to their attacks.

The Obsidian Order Cuirass is great even as a heavy set of armor but since it’s behind a paywall, it’s hard to justify raising it any higher. It is, at least, more alluring than the Engwithan Cuirass for DLC bonuses.

Wayfarer’s Armor

Move Faster And Regenerate HP When Low

• Location: Northern Paradis (Shop)

Wayfarer’s Armor is not DLC and instead can be purchased from a shop in Northern Paradis once the area unlocks. This heavy armor will boost the speed of players which is funny considering most heavy sets of armor slow players down significantly.

When HP is low, there is a chance to regenerate it too. The stats are good but the price may be a bit high for the early goings in Avowed and there is simply better unique armor on the list anyway.

Steel Garrote Plate

Counter Damage Back And Constitution +1

• Location: Ruinous Cavern

The Steel Garrote Plate is kind of tied to a side quest or at least it will be hard to avoid when scavenging for this heavy set of armor. The Ruinous Cavern is located on the west side of Paradis, below the city which is where players will enter the bounty hunt for Nacib in Avowed.

Once it’s dealt with, players can loot a corpse to get this armor. There is a chance this armor will deflect damage back to enemies as a countermeasure. It can also boost Constitution which is the stat responsible for raising HP and keeping up resistance to the Poison and Bleed status effects.

Stelgaer’s Pride

Cast Barbaric Shout When HP Is Low And Increase Stamina Regeneration

• Location: Yellowband Camp

The Stelgaer’s Pride armor is the first medium set worth discussing. It can be obtained after dealing with another bounty mission in the Yellowband Camp area of the map. This place is filled with enemies, so it’s best to use stealth.

Take down enemies with the bow silently or hide in grass and then assassinate enemies as they come along. As for the armor, it can cast the level 5 Fighter ability Barbaric Shout which can increase the chances to stun an enemy in Avowed. It can also improve Stamina regeneration.

Many-Hued Doublet

Elemental Resistance And Increase Health Restoration

• Location: Merylin’s Shop (Paradis)

The Many-Hued Doublet is a light piece of armor. It can be purchased from one of the few named shopkeepers in Dawnshore within Paradis, Merylin.

Blackwing Armor

The Blackwing Armor is an excellent set for players who prefer their armor to be light. However, it requires killing an NPC that feels kind of wrong, Ygwulf. How he is tied to the story will remain spoiler-free but he will come up during the last main quest of Dawnshore called An Untimely End.

The armor will improve stealth elements for those who want to take advantage of what Avowed has to offer. It will be harder for enemies to spot the player while wearing the armor and it will improve movement not to mention shadowy takedowns are more lethal.

Arcanist’s Gambeson

Increase Essence And Area Of Attacks

• Type: Light
• Location: Yellowband Camp

The Arcanist’s Gambeson is the last great set of armor players can obtain early and it’s another light piece. It’s located in a chest within the Yellowband Camp where the Stelgaer’s Pride armor was also located at. This armor is great for players who want to engage the game as a powerful mage which makes the game easier.

It will increase Essence, again, used to cast spells in Avowed as MP does in other RPGs. It can also increase the area of effect for spells that have a radius. The upgraded version of Fireball, a level five Wizard spell in Avowed, has a nice splash zone.
