Summary
- Henry starts Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 vulnerable, so focus on armor upgrades early.
- Invest in Mail Hood, Collar, Noble’s Bascinet for effective head protection.
- Consider Aketon Short, Hauberk Long, Milanese Cuirass for balanced defense.
At the start of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it’s no secret that Henry will feel particularly fragile, and even some of the easiest combat encounters can leave him at death’s door if you’re not careful.
For the first half of the game, it’s understandable that you’ll be scrimping by with the best armor you can loot from different enemy encounters, and perhaps treat yourself to a fresh purchase from a Trosky blacksmith. However, by the time you’ve unlocked the Kuttenberg map, you’ll have access to the main city and it’s multiple armories. So, which are the best pieces of armor to invest in first?
8
Mail Hood With A Coat Of Arms
Padded Coif
To have the best head armor equipped, you’ll need to make sure that Henry has a padded coif. For most of the game, you’ll likely be using the most basic padded coif just so Henry can equip helmets, but the later you get in, the more important it will be to replace it with a more effective option.
The drawback to upgrading your coif is that the better versions tend to be much heavier, so they aren’t that viable until Henry has the strength to be able to keep one equipped. However, as soon as Henry can easily carry the weight of a heavier, but much more protective coif, then keep an eye out for the Mail Hood with a Coat of Arms.

Mail Collar With Badge
Collar
Similarly to a padded coif, your collar for most of the first half of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be whatever you can get your hands on, but as soon as you can find a higher quality one, then it’s recommended to make the upgrade.
This upgrade won’t need to wait as long, since the better collars aren’t that much heavier than the basic versions, and they are also one of the cheaper pieces to upgrade. The best collar in the game, the Mail Collar With Badge, can be bought for around 300 groschen, but even then it’s a piece you can often find on guards if you get the chance to loot them.
6
Noble’s Bascinet
Helmet
Out of all the pieces of head armor available, the piece that will nearly always be the most expensive is your helmet. The best helmets in the game can cost thousands of Groschen, so while you might want to save up, it’s usually more cost-effective to wait until you can loot one from an enemy and then repair it if needs be.

Both Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Red Dead Redemption 2 offer historical sandboxes, but which is better?
The Noble’s Bascinet is one of the best helmets in the game, but it does have some stiff competition, with most of the other late-game helmets being viable alternatives. With how expensive it can be to repair these helmets, sometimes it’s best to settle for a lower-cost alternative, since the differences in stats sometimes aren’t worth the investment.
5
Aketon Short
Gamesbon
While you’ll need a gamesbon to equip most other pieces of body armor, the differences in stats between different gamesbons are usually not that impactful to make it a high priority item to regularly replace.
However, compared to other pieces of body armor, gamesbon are also significantly cheaper than just about any other piece. This makes them a low investment way to quickly get a small increase in defense, perfect for overcoming a fight that is giving you trouble. The Aketon Short is the best in the game, but there are quite a few that get close, so don’t rush to get it too quickly.
4
Hauberk Long
Chainmail
Chainmail is one of the categories of armor that will give you the biggest buffs in defense if you invest in the best pieces possible, but as you can expect, this comes with a high cost.
Not only will a good piece of chainmail like the Hauberk Long set you back upwards of 1,000 groschen depending on where you’re shopping, they’re also incredibly heavy. Because of this, they’re not one of the easier pieces to loot, since picking up an extra piece of chainmail will nearly always make Henry over-encumbered.
3
Milanese Cuirass
Plate
If there’s one piece of armor that you’ll ideally be able to steal or loot it’s a plate. Not only are plates relatively lightweight, making them easy to carry around if you get them amidst a longer mission, but they’re also incredibly expensive.
You’re pretty unlikely to run across a Milanese Cuirass in the wild, so unless Henry goes specifically out of his way to find it during certain missions, he’ll need to spend almost 5,000 groschen to buy one in Kuttenberg.
2
Nuremberg Plate Gauntlets & Nuremberg Gauntlets
Sleeves & Gloves
Both part of the same set, the Nuremberg Plate Gauntlets and the Nuremberg Gauntlets are the best for the sleeves and gloves category of Henry’s armor. While they’re both the ideal for each category since they’re light and provide high defense, they’re also some of the most expensive.
Unlike some of the other more expensive pieces of armor like plates, these two pieces are more likely to be found on looted guards, so it’s not recommended to drop the thousands of groschen to get them early when you’ll eventually find them for free.
1
Noble’s Plate Legs
Shoes
While there are plenty of layers to Henry’s leg armor category, only one particular piece in the set matters for his defense, being his shoes. If you want the best in this category, then look out for the Noble’s Plate Legs.
While they’re quite heavy, they’re far from the heaviest part of Henry’s armor set, but you’ll still want to wait until Henry’s strength is high enough that this piece doesn’t become a burden on his build. Similarly to hand armor, this piece can be found outside of shops, but it’s significantly rarer, so if you can afford it, it’s one of the better pieces to splurge on.
