EA has released the 8.5.0 update for Battlefield 2042 with a number of quality of life improvements to enhance the overall player experience. The new Battlefield 2042 update also brings a major visual overhaul to the loading screen of all game modes, with further improvements on the way.
Despite its many issues at launch in 2021, Battlefield 2042 has undergone many improvements over the years thanks to post-launch updates. The updates brought much-needed technical and gameplay fixes, along with new content and many new features. In January 2025, EA released a major Battlefield 2042 update with two new vehicles, M3A3 Bradley and BMP-2, along with the Frontlines Unlocked and Conquest Unlocked modes. Although development resources are going toward making the next game in the Battlefield series, Battlefield 6, EA and its developers are still working on Battlefield 2042 updates, which include the newly released 8.5.0 update.

Update 8.5.0 for Battlefield 2042 is available now on all platforms with loading screen improvements and several bug fixes. Firstly, the Battlefield 2042 developers implemented a visual overhaul of the loading screen for all game modes, featuring improved descriptions and iconography indicators for each mode’s rules. This improvement also applies to Custom Experiences in Battlefield Portal, and creators now have more space for descriptions. According to the game’s patch notes, more improvements will be made to loading screens in future updates, and more details will be revealed on Battlefield’s social media channels and Discord server.
The latest Battlefield 2042 update also fixed overlapping input prompts on the deploy screen. Similarly to Battlefield 2042 update 8.4.1, a few notable vehicle improvements and bug fixes were applied with update 8.5.0 as well, including a new insertion sequence for the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter and smoother camera transitions when switching views in seats while in a vehicle. A progression blocking issue involving Battlefield 2042’s Accelerated Event Pass was also fixed, so players should be able to purchase it and properly claim their rewards going forward.
With more updates on the way, Battlefield 2042 players can look forward to additional improvements while waiting for more details about the next Battlefield game. Criterion, EA Motive, and Ripple Effect are developing the new title with DICE as the largest development team the Battlefield franchise has ever had. The new Battlefield game is expected to release within EA’s 2026 fiscal year, which runs from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.

One of the main areas of improvement for Update 8.5 is a visual overhaul of the loading screen for all game modes. Now you will be able to see improved descriptions and iconography indicators for the rules of each mode before loading into the match in a much more pleasing and penguin-approved way. This improvement also extends to Custom Experiences within Battlefield Portal, allowing creators more space for descriptions. Further improvements will be made to this loading screen in a future update too!
