Summary

  • Xbox launched a Buy 1 Get 2 Free sale featuring titles like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws.
  • Most AAA games in the sale only have deluxe editions available, limiting potential savings for some gamers.
  • The promotion ends on February 25, offering an opportunity to snag recent releases with added free games.

A new limited time Buy 1 Get 2 Free deal has just gone live on Xbox‘s storefront. This comes shortly after Xbox highlighted its weekly deals, which include heavy discounts for games like A Plague Tale: Innocence, 2023’s zombie smasher Dead Island 2, the original Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and other big titles.

Xbox has run its Buy 1 Get 2 Free sale a couple of times, most recently just last month. It’s a great way to give gamers freedom in selecting which specific deals they’d like to go after, only having to pay for one of their three selected games. January’s lineup included a whopping 300 indie games, including 2019’s hit Untitled Goose Game, The Long Dark, Bendy and the Dark Revival, Telltale’s The Walking Dead, and even Squanch Games’ 2022 comedy shooter High On Life. Since January’s list was focused on indie games, it makes sense that Xbox is doing another Buy 1 Get 2 Free Sale so soon afterward, prioritizing larger AAA games.

While there are many big games to choose from in Xbox’s Buy 1 Get 2 Free deal this time around, there’s a major caveat. Most of the big AAA titles, like Mortal Kombat 1, Hogwarts Legacy, and the major Ubisoft games, only have their more expensive deluxe editions available in the sale, shrinking gamers’ potential savings. Gamers who are looking for smaller AA or indie titles can still create a solid bundle of titles, though the selection of such types of games isn’t as impressive. Still, gamers who’ve been waiting for a deeper sale to pick up recent releases like Star Wars Outlaws or Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora may be tempted to take the plunge here, as they’ll get to pick two extra games at no additional cost.

Xbox gamers have just a week to take advantage of this new Buy 1 Get 2 Free deal before the offer expires next week on February 25. There are already a wealth of massive new games that have come out or are imminently about to release, like Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and Monster Hunter Wilds. Add to all this Xbox’s new Buy 1 Get 2 sale and there’s a lot for Xbox gamers to chew on in the coming days and weeks.
