One Piece is an incredibly large series, full of tons of interesting characters and locations. Due to this, at times, it can be difficult to find a proper place for every character to have their time to shine. Although something like this may seem detrimental to One Piece in the long run, strangely enough, all it does is create more hype for highly anticipated characters that fans want to see in the spotlight once again.
Out of any character in One Piece, no other character is nearly as highly anticipated as Monkey D. Dragon. While the character plays an extremely vital role in the series, so far, the Head of the Revolutionary Army has done almost nothing noteworthy. Although at this point fans are ready to see the character have his chance to show off his abilities, among all the fan theories surrounding Dragon, it may be hard for him to live up to the massive amount of hype.

Monkey D. Dragon is an extremely important character in One Piece, despite not doing much of note so far. Firstly, Dragon is the father of the protagonist of One Piece, Monkey D. Luffy, though he has been largely absent in his life. At the same time, Dragon is also the Head of the Revolutionary Army, making him the most wanted person in the world of One Piece, as well as a fierce enemy of the World Government.

While this puts Dragon in the position of an extremely important person in the world of One Piece, so far, Dragon hasn’t done much to prove himself deserving of his title. As of now, the only thing of note that Dragon has done is save Luffy from Smoker during the Loguetown Arc of One Piece. Outside of this significant, though small in the grand scheme of things, event, Dragon has kept largely to himself, occasionally commenting on current events. However, despite not doing anything, based on his station and status as the most wanted person, fans have high expectations of Dragon’s physical abilities.

Based on the events surrounding the rescue of Luffy in Loguetown, many fans assume that Dragon has an ability strong enough to change the weather. This includes theories that suggest that Dragon may possess a God Devil Fruit, similar to Luffy’s Nika Fruit, or potentially possess Haki strong enough to perform such a feat.

As of now, it seems unlikely that Dragon will reach a similar level to End of Series Blackbeard or Luffy. However, at the same time, it seems likely that Dragon will be on a similar level as the Admirals of the Navy. Still, having the epic character of Dragon revealed to already be weaker than his son may leave a sour taste in the eyes of fans.

In the end, with Luffy’s father in One Piece, Dragon, being built up for so long, it may be difficult for fans to accept his level of strength when it’s finally revealed. However, not all hope is lost when it comes to Dragon’s power. If Dragon is introduced to the story soon, before characters like Blackbeard and Luffy become too strong, it may be possible to give Dragon a satisfying place in One Piece’s power system.
