VIT vs BDS – LEC Winter Playoffs Preview
Both Team Vitality and Team BDS were crushed in the opening round of the LEC Winter playoffs, losing 2-0 to Karmine Corp and MKOI. While the two teams had some good showing during the regular split, inconsistency has started emerging in both teams.
Among the two, VIT is probably the one that has had higher highs but also lower lows. It’s a bit expected considering they have Hylissang but having lows in crucial moments of the split can backfire. The positive thing about them, however, is Carzzy’s solid performance throughout the split. VIT has looked a bit lost in the mid-game macro, getting caught and having some weird decision making.
BDS, on the other hand, has looked more off than what we expected coming into the new year. Top laner Irrelevant isn’t the one that dominated in SK last year, and even the usual carries of nuc and Ice haven’t looked as strong as last year. Parus and 113 haven’t lived up to the expectations, having some int moments here and there.
Series Breakdown
Overall, I think that Team Vitality is likely favored to take the series. Even though their volatility might be higher, I believe they have higher peak performance and deeper champion pools now that teams run with the Fearless draft mode.
The only way I see BDS win is if they default back to their scaling comps and play the game slowly. If they can wait for Ice and nuc to get online with their picks, then we might have a series on our hands. While it can happen once in a Bo3, I doubt it will happen more than once against VIT.
