Viewers were instantly wowed by the trailer’s polished graphics and rapid combat, with countless comments likening it to the Devil May Cry series, and many online polls saw Tides of Annihilation voted the best PS5 game shown during the recent State of Play. As many viewers have already picked up on, combat is similar to that found in the Devil May Cry series, and players will be able to choose between four weapons: bows, swords, fists, and one yet to be announced. As the massive Chinese publisher Tencent has a stake in Tides of Annihilation‘s success, the team also explained that they chose a setting based on Arthurian legends to cater to the Western market. Tencent also invested in Game Science’s wildly popular action RPG Black Myth: Wukong, which found the majority of its success with Eastern audiences.

While no release window has been announced, Tides of Annihilation is coming to multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The team behind the title is comprised largely of industry veterans who have worked on major franchises like Persona, Prince of Persia, Yakuza, For Honor, and Assassin’s Creed. While Tides of Annihilation will be the first title released by Eclipse Glow Games, expectations are already incredibly high.
The February 2025 State of Play offered a few more surprise announcements, including release dates for Borderlands 4 and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a new game from Housemarque, and the reveal of Days Gone Remastered for PS5. Sony fans were disappointed when Death Stranding 2: On the Beach didn’t appear during the presentation, as the game is expected to release sometime in 2025.
