Summary

  • Beerus is teased to be the most powerful God of Destruction in Dragon Ball Super, but has never been shown at his full strength.
  • Beerus, with Hakai mastery and Ultra Instinct, could be a near-perfect fighter.
  • Current Dragon Ball heroes are far from matching Beerus, with Frieza’s Black form being the closest to his power level.

With Dragon Ball Super, the power hierarchy of the multiverse became quite clear. While everyone always considered Goku to be the most powerful member of his universe, the introduction of Beerus the Destroyer showed fans how wrong they were, since even in his strongest state, Goku isn’t even close to him. Most consider Beerus to be the most powerful God of Destruction in the multiverse.

However, despite this supposed incredible power, Beerus has never been shown at his strongest in Dragon Ball. This has always been teased though, since he always comments to Goku and Vegeta that he will nominate either of them for his position when they surpass him. So, in this article, let’s go over everything we know about Beerus to guess what his strongest state could look like and examine how far Goku and Vegeta are to matching him.

Beerus The Destroyer Arc

In 2013, Super Saiyan 3 Goku was the most powerful character that existed within Universe 7 and had been so in the canon of the series for decades up to that point. However, this all changed when Beerus was introduced as the Destroyer God of this universe, who routinely went on eons-long naps to distract him from his duty. Because of this, the heroes were largely unaware of his existence and the threat he posed.

Upon waking from one of these naps, he journeyed the cosmos to find the Super Saiyan God, who was prophesized to be his greatest rival. He found this rival in Goku and had a tough fight with him, after which the Saiyan earned his respect so he let him live and didn’t destroy his planet. However, at the very end, it was revealed that despite ‘having a tough battle’ against Goku’s newest and most powerful form, Beerus was never even using a notable fraction of his full strength.

Anyone stronger than the God of Destruction does not exist!

From here, his full power was just vaguely teased now and again but never expressly shown until the initial sparring matches between every Destroyer God at the beginning of the Tournament of Power. Every God of Destruction fought here, but initially, they all teamed up against Beerus due to personal vendettas, where he proceeded to use Ultra Instinct Omen to take them all on at once, even getting the upper hand at times. Though most of the battle happened off-screen, Beerus and Quitela were the only ones left standing at the end.

Yet again, this wasn’t a display of his full power, but it definitely showed Beerus as likely the strongest Destroyer God in the multiverse. Even after this, during the Moro arc, Beerus was about to lend a hand against the villain and was implied to make short work of him, something which Ultra Instinct Goku couldn’t even do. With all of this considered, Beerus’s full power can be hinted at.

It was stated that there are different degrees to Hakai and its mastery, since Vegeta was shown to struggle with it initially. Owing to Beerus’s strength and experience, it can be surmised that his proficiency with the technique is second to none, and, combined with his ability to use Ultra Instinct Omen, it makes him as close to a perfect fighter as can exist in Dragon Ball.

It’s clear that no one in the current setting could even hope to match Beerus in his full-powered state since Ultra Instinct and Hakai have never been shown together, which makes it so that Beerus would have the perfect offense and perfect defense simultaneously. Of course, he would still fall short when fighting someone of the caliber of the Angels, but maybe a release of his full power coupled with his Hakai would be enough to close the gap between them. All in all, no mortals, except for maybe Black Frieza, could match Full Powered Beerus.

How Others Can Close The Gap

What Can Everyone Else Do Against Him?

The way things are going right now, no one is even close to the true strength of Beerus. While Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Beast Gohan, Full Power Super Saiyan Broly, and Orange Piccolo are easily the strongest forms of the heroes, they still have a long way to go before matching Beerus, since he still doesn’t believe them to be close to his own power. Goku and Vegeta hope to reach this stage with their Divine Transformations, but they need to perfect them to even stand a chance.

However, there is an outlier in all of this. Frieza has recently unlocked his Black Frieza transformation through training in a Hyperbolic Time Chamber for a decade. This new form is far stronger than anything the heroes can muster themselves as it took out Goku and Vegeta in their strongest forms with a single punch, showing how far they actually are in terms of strength. Many fans believe Black Frieza to be near Beerus’s level, as he is certainly the most powerful mortal in the series at the current moment.

Dragon Ball can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
