The Last Flame is a single-player auto-battler where you’re challenged to assemble a strong, synergistic team to take on a challenge where your units, equipment, and team-wide relics and origins are selected from random pools.

The Last Flame: 7 Best Heroes

These are the most powerful heroes in The Last Flame.

As you make your way through the game’s stages, enemies get steadily more powerful, so you need to stay ahead of that curve. Though luck is always a factor, having a clear vision (and the flexibility to pivot), can see you through to the end. To that end, it’s a good idea to form a build from your initial units, and here are some of the best.

7

Burning And Bleeding

Units on a hex grid fighting a giant red ogre, one of the units releases a wave fire. Numbers are everywhere in The Last Flame.

Recommended Heroes

Bleed: Leeam (Reborn), Silas, Nox, Alec, Shrop, Nalua

Burn: Atreos (Reborn), Magmis, Blake, Pyro, Ola, Elora

Recommended Items

Fire Cloak, Bloodknight’s Armor, Stonescale Ring, Blood Ring, Ritual Axe, Fire Tome, Fiery Katana, Amber Sword, Burning Sword, Blazing Trident, Sanguine Ring, Blaz, Spelldancer, Godfury, Striker’s Arrow, Mammoth Caller, Flameborn, Dragon’s Blood Necklace, Triblade Whip, Sanguine Blade, Ritual Axe, Staff of the Clash

Recommended Origins

Bloodlord, Blood Cleric, Spectral (For high SP), Specialist (For high crit chance), Dragon Rider, Pyromaniac

Recommended Relics

Burn Orb, Blood Orb, Tome of Burn, Tome of Bleed, Poison, Amber Dagger, Honest Brothers (summon scaling), Magma Stone, Dragon Tail, Desert Chest, Demon’s Fist, Ruby Heart

If you like auto-attacking for the win, you’ll want to stack the burn and bleed debuffs as much as possible. Both are triggered by auto-attacks, so they already have a natural compatibility. Burns deal Ethereal damage equal to the burn stacks on an enemy every time they’re attacked, while bleeds have a chance to increase the attacker’s attack damage by a small percentage of the accumulated bleeds for the rest of the fight.

Once you have a means of reliably applying these status effects, you’ll want fast attackers who might also be able to reliably hit a critical attack. All of the archer heroes (Leeam, Karina) fit these criteria well, and every one of them has hyper-carry potential. You should also keep an eye out for fast attackers who can apply these debuffs.

6

Shocked And Frozen

Units on a hex grid fighting a giant creature. There's lightning and icicles coming down from the sky in The Last Flame.

Recommended Heroes

Shock: Kasara, Mr. Pumpkins, Zotz, Flynn, Orion, Ruhn

Frost: Leuko, Ralf, Arya, Snowy, Zoe, Joanna, Eslo

Recommended Items

Thundering Helm, Frozen Armor, Scroll: Purple Flyke, Scroll: Blue Flyke, Thunder Dagger, Amber Ring, Blood Ring, Storm Sword, Shocker Spear, Ritual Axe, Frozen Axe, Staff of the Clash, Thunder Ring, Thundra, Anchor, Everfrost Amulet

Recommended Origins

Ice Riders, Icyvern, Frost Golem, Lightguard, Thundercaller, Rune Champion,

Recommended Relics

Frost Orb, Shock Orb, Tome of Shock, Steampunk Goggles, Spell Book, Geode, Winter Stone, Electrified Gemstone, Sacred Tome, Dragon Spring

In the same way that bleed and burn are both triggered by auto attacks, shocked and frozen both interact with spell casts. Each stack of shock increases the chance of stunning the afflicted on spell cast as well as increasing the duration time of non-shock stuns by a percentage. Frost, on the other hand, amplifies spell damage.

2024’s 8 Best Strategy Games

2024 was no slouch in the strategy game department (in fact, one game has 11 in it!).

Together, you can turn your casters into monsters, stun-locking most enemies while your already powerful spells get even stronger. For this build you’ll want heroes with small mana pools so they cast often, with stuns being a nice bonus. Kasara is the best example of this since not only does she have a small mana pool, but on each cast she gains spell power AND stuns her target.

5

Melee Magic

Units on a hex grid, all surrounded by a tornado of ice and blood against a giant caped ogre in The Last Flame.

Recommended Heroes

Alec, Zoe, Silas, Leuko, Nox, Any Melee Damage Dealer, Any Melee Tank

Recommended Items

Scroll: Blue Flyke, Malicious Eye Ring, Smoldering Armor, Frozen Axe, Shell Ring, Staff of the Forest, Everfrost Amulet, Staff of the Hail, King’s Ring, Ramping Staff

Recommended Origins

Spellweaver, Ice Riders, Icyvern, Frost Golem, Bloodlord, Blood Cleric, Guardian, Spell Warden

Recommended Relics

Frost Orb, Bleed Orb, Tome of Frost, Tome of Bleed, Mushroom, Geode, Spell Stone, Banana, Strange Bug, Leaf Mask, Starfish

This build requires two heroes to work: Alec and Zoe. Their abilities are the same thing with some minor differences, mainly that one inflicts frost and the other inflicts bleed. While there is no synergy between those two debuffs, that’s not what matters. What matters is that their abilities are cast around all your heroes, increasing their area of effect. With both their spells’ modest SP scaling, this might not seem all that impressive, until you realize that every hero is a separate instance of damage.

This essentially multiplies their damage by however many heroes are near enemies. If clustered together, enemies end up taking massive damage, especially if the target is alone. To make the most out of this, make sure your team (except Alec) consists of melee heroes. Also consider a mix of offense and defense on each hero so that if your tank loses aggro, they have some survivability.

4

Ether Drive

Three friendly unitys fighting an ogre. One of them cleaves the ogre with a giant blue blade and another is the center of the explosion. The ogre is covered in numbers in The Last Flame.

Recommended Heroes

Attack Damage: Khiro, Leuko Reborn, Elora,

Spell Power: Zoe Reborn, Emily, Vinrak, Zanmar, Kris, Mr. Pumpkins

Other: Terros (Defense), Giachi (Defense), Naomi Reborn (Ally AD), Rinji (Debuffs)

Recommended Items

Triblade Whip, Turquoise Ring, Dagger of the Surge, Hidden Blade, Ether Blade, Old Man’s Necklace, Tome of Strength, Fissured Ring, Psychic Dagger, Summoner’s Arrow, Shaman’s Wand, Serrated Fists, Enchanted Claws, Demon’s Fists, Smoldering Armor, Ritual Arrow, Giant’s Fist, Giant Battleaxe, Fire Tome, Mana Polearm, Darko’s Bow, Ethereal Armor, Darkguard, Telekinesis Gloves, Spelldancer, Midnight, Staff of the Elements, Giant Lollipop, Godfury, Striker’s Arrow, Ethereal Bow, Worldslayer, Captain’s Necklace, Mystical Spear

Recommended Origins

Spectral, Specialist, Abyssal, Celestial

Recommended Relics

Moltenstone, Claw, Poison, Burn Orb, Shamanic Mixture, Amber Dagger, Rami’s Ship, Deserts Chest, Iridescent Pearl, Gingerbread Man, Buche de Noel

Ether damage is an unusual but no less potent alternative to attack damage or its closely related cousin, spell damage. Ether damage team comps are surprisingly flexible since what they scale off of varies, from spell damage and attack damage to more esoteric things like stacks of debuffs (Rinji) or defense (Terros).

They all, however, massively benefit from the Ethereal Amplification stat. This exists in a handful of relics and origins, with a bigger presence among items. They also tend to be quite powerful, increasing the ether amp by more than items of similar quality raises AD or SP. It’s also worth noting that ether damage has great synergy with burns since each stack amplifies ether damage.

3

Strike Team Critical

A giant creature flanked by a caped man in a wave of blood and hooded figure. Giant numbers are above the creature in The Last Flame.

Recommended Heroes

Kara, Nox, Snowy

Recommended Items

Warrior’s Blade, Greatsword of the Surge, Swiftbow, Giant Arbalest, Lord’s Dagger, Orcish Bow, Enchanted Claws, Storm Sword, Double Edge Axe, Blazing Trident, Amber Sword, Scroll: Red Flyke, Valkyrie Scepter, Slingshot v1.0, Midnight, Skeleton Staff, Darko’s Blade, Mythic Dagger, Devourer, Mystical Spear, Maxim’s Great Spear, Many Faces Mask, Dragon’s Fang, Night’s Edge

Recommended Origins

Dragonsmith, Gageteer, Spellweaver, Mech, Arcane Weaver, Conqueror, Soulless

Recommended Relics

Bleed Orb, Garnet, Tentacle, Mushroom, Tome of Doom, Korus

Critical damage is pretty useful in this game, at minimum dealing double attack (and spell, with omnicrit) damage when it procs. You can also boost the multiplier through various means for even more damage. However, it takes critical builds a lot of work to take off. Unless you have Kara, Nox, or both on your team since they have ways to guarantee crits by default.

Kara gets a critical strike from her active and the three seconds of 100 percent crits. Nox takes this even further since he has the smallest mana pool in the game, allowing him to cast every third attack, which is a guaranteed critical. This means both majorly benefit from Bleed as well. This means that you’re free to build critical damage without– or even detrimentally to– crit chance, allowing for some ludicrous big hits as well as guaranteed procs of crit-activated items and origins.

2

Back To Basics

A dragon fighting some heroes. The dragon is in the middle of an aura of nature and the heroes are in the middle of an array of light in The Last Flame.

Recommended Heroes

Kris, Rose, Elriel, Leeam, Any Tank, Any Damage Dealer

Recommended Items

Band of the Surge, Nature’s Ring, Healing Pouch, Fissured Ring, Runic Shield, Red Knight’s Helmet, Protector’s Helmet, Healing Cloak, Mending Band, Guardian Helmet, Guardian Gloves, Realm’s Shield, Protector’s Staff, Giant’s Fists, Ethereal Armor, Pearl Neclace, Specialty Tome, Staff of the Forest, Leeching Ring, Gladiator’s Helmet, Dark Knight Armor, Giant’s Belt, Alar

Sometimes, modern problems require old solutions and the old healer-DPS-tank formation is one of the older concepts in gaming. You’ll want heroes whose skills are divided by tanks who take aggro, healers to keep the party alive, and of course, damage dealers to eliminate enemies.

6 Best MMOs That Aren’t Pay To Win

Here are some of the best MMOs with little to no pay-to-win systems.

The second part of that equation is one of the rarer things in the game, with only three reliable sources (Elriel, Kris, and Rose) of healing. For this to work, you’ll have to get at least one of them, two if possible. The best distribution is probably 2-2-2, but your team is even safer with 2-1-3 and doesn’t lose much damage if the DPS is hypercarry like Leeam.

1

Army of Summons

An hex grid with friendly units attack an enemy swarmed by drakes and pelted by water elementals in The Last Flame.

Recommended Heroes

Okhar, Zephys, Layla, Dagon, Savos, Cora Reborn, Joanna, Ripley, Leeam

Recommended Items

Anything with ‘summon’ in its description

Recommended Origins

Swarm Lord, Starving Beasts, Gryphon Rider, Angel, Ravenlord, Archaic

Recommended Relics

Anything with ‘summon’ in its description

Except: Bear Paw

This is as simple as it gets: flood the field with summons and then profit. Chances are, if you see any hero, item, or origin with the word “summon” in it, you should take it. The game almost encourages this with so many things in the game that scale off the number of summons on the field, never mind the attacks of the summons themselves.

There are plenty of heroes and items that bring summons to the field and while it’s not guaranteed that you get an optimal five-summoner team, you can also pad your numbers with the Seahorse or Zeno relics.
