A new expansion to Headquarters World War 2 brings its brand of realistic turn-based strategy to the harsh winter conditions of the Battle of the Bulge. Like the winter campaign for which it is named, Headquarters World War 2: Ardennes is harsh and blistering. Across two campaigns and sixteen new scenarios, players can recreate iconic battles such as the Siege of Bastogne, the St. Vith Assault, and the Push for Celles. The best part? It’s out right now.

In each level of the new Headquarters World War 2 DLC, strategists will contend with snowstorms, mud, and ice. All these terrain types offer new challenges and opportunities. Infantry can hide in deep snow and cross iced-over rivers, while mud will slow down vehicles and troops alike. Units can don new winter camouflage to evade enemy sightlines.

Ardennes also brings more tools to the expansive strategy game playground of Headquarters WW2. Players can utilize 12 new vehicles and six new heroes, across both US and German forces, to outmaneuver foes. The added vehicles include the M26 Pershing, Jagdpanzer IV, and Sherman Firefly Tulip. As in the base game, each vehicle is a realistic model of its real-world counterpart. Each tank is weak in particular spots, such as its topside armor, so positioning and flanking correctly is vital. All of Ardennes’ new features have been added to Headquarters World War 2’s suite of multiplayer offerings.

To celebrate the release of this expansion, players can pick up the base game of Headquarters World War 2 (and its first expansion Winter Garden) on sale. Developer Slitherine has announced several updates to come in 2025, such as Steam Workshop support, improvements to enemy AI, and additional gameplay and balance changes. Summer 2025 will bring another paid expansion, albeit a smaller one.
