Stranger Things fans have been waiting with bated breath for almost 2 and a half years since season 4 concluded to get a glimpse of Eleven and the gang once again. Now, the science fiction/drama is set to return to Netflix with its fifth and final season this year, which will see whatever Vecna has in store for the town of Hawkins, Indiana in the beloved series’ last outing.
Stranger Things introduced viewers to a host of fantastic Dungeons and Dragons-inspired villains through its mind-bending and surreal Upside Down world, from the Mind Flayer, Demogorgons, vines, and Demobats that are the bane of every character’s nightmare. However, one of the most horrifying creatures is the fearsome humanoid Vecna, who uses his telekinetic powers to possess teens from his dark lair. In season 4 of Stranger Things, Vecna is the main antagonist and is played by Jamie Campbell Bower (Henry Creel), who shares horrific similarities with Nightmare on Elm Street’s villain Freddy Krueger. Robert Englund, who played the bladed glove killer in the 1980s horror classic, also appears as Henry Creel’s father, Victor Creel in this season too. As iconic as many of the scenes from Stranger Things are, one scene in particular didn’t go as planned for Bower, resulting in a bit of a red-faced moment.

Stranger Things Star Recalls On-Set Accident Where “Everyone Gasped”
During a panel at Megacon Orlando that Screen Rant attended, Jamie Campbell Bower revealed that while holding Max (Sadie Sink) captive as Vecna in season 4‘s heart-pounding standout moment, Bower ended up having an accident when he tried to pull the vine that had twisted around his neck and wound up slipping on some water that was on the floor. “I actually fell over when we were shooting that scene. Yeah, there’s a bit when she pulls out the vine. Before she starts running, she pulls out the vine from Vecna’s neck, and it was a bit wet on the floor, and I fell over, and everyone gasped.”
Due to the crew’s apparent audible shock at what just happened, Bower assumed that they were concerned for his wellbeing, but in fact, they were a lot more worried about the damage the fall may have done to Vecna’s pricey makeup and costume. “So, I was like, oh, they feel really bad for me, and they just don’t. They feel really worried about how expensive the make-up was.” Thankfully, viewers weren’t aware of any embarrassing mishaps and the scene went on to be one of the series’ most iconic, even allowing Kate Bush’s 1985 Running Up That Hill hit to jump back into the charts again, topping number one in eight countries across the globe.
Production on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things officially wrapped in December 2024, where fans also got a peek at some behind-the-scenes images of the cast and set. While viewers won’t see Argyle or Eddie when Stranger Things season 5 returns, they will be introduced to a few new characters like Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux, who will be joining the cast.
