Square Enix has announced the shutdown of the service of their RPG, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition on the iOS platform due to an unresolvable bug related to paid additional content. This remastered version was released on mobile platforms in August 2020.
The game had to be removed due to a bug that affected paid additional content
For those new, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition is an upgraded version of the classic 2003 Nintendo GameCube RPG, offering various features including online multiplayer and cross-platform play.
Unfortunately, the Final Fantasy team has announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) about the game’s discontinuation on iOS. According to the official notice, players reported issues accessing purchased additional content on the platform.
They identified the problem as a result of changes made to the in-app purchases model of Apple. They stated, “We are unable to completely fix the bug and implement the new changes, making it unlikely to resume service for the game.” Due to this, they decided to shut down the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles iOS version.
Players can request a refund as well provided they purchased additional content
On the positive side, they are offering refunds for any in-app purchases made in January 2024 or later. You can request refunds for all additional content, which includes 15 items in total, by contacting Apple Support and requesting a refund. You can also contact the FF support center with related issues till August 31, 2025.
The devs have also confirmed to support Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Android, giving iOS users the option to switch to these platforms. I am happy that the game remains available on other platforms, especially considering some recent shutdown announcements like King’s Raid, Atelier Resleriana, and more.
