Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been breaking all sorts of video game records at the box office, but its big screen numbers have been slowing down and will likely all but stop in their tracks this week. That’s because its rollout onto streaming platforms has begun, and if you live in the US and Canada, you should be able to watch the third Sonic movie on Paramount Plus by the time you read this.
That means whether you’ve seen the movie already, you’re brand new to the live-action adaptation of one of the most iconic video game series ever, or somewhere in between, the entire saga is now available to watch all in one place. Not only the first three movies but also the Knuckles spinoff series that’s exclusively available through Paramount Plus and released between the second and third films.

This isn’t a situation where you will have to rent or pay extra to watch Sonic 3. If you have an active Paramount Plus subscription, then the threequel is included with the price of entry. If you don’t have Paramount Plus but want to watch Sonic 3, the streaming service offers a seven-day free trial if you’ve never subscribed before. That means you could sign up, watch the entire trilogy a bunch of times, and then cancel your subscription a week from now, but hey, you didn’t hear that from me.

The arrival of Sonic 3 on Paramount Plus comes almost five years to the day after the first movie hit cinemas. The series has been on quite the arc since then. Since before then actually as it began with the backlash to Sonic’s original movie design. Paramount and Sega delayed the movie so the Blue Blur’s design could be overhauled, and the rest is history.
Since then the Sonic movies have gone from strength to strength. Sonic 2 made more money than the first movie, and not only has Sonic 3 bettered that total again, but it has brought the total made by all three to north of $1 billion. It has also managed to cement itself as the second highest-grossing video game movie ever, speeding past Detective Pikachu and Warcraft before its theatrical run was over, but having to settle for a distant second after The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
There’s not been any news on a second spinoff show similar to Knuckles, despite Shadow arguably needing one, but Paramount and Sega have already confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is slated to hit cinemas in 2027.
