Players must make an important choice at the end of the Ancient Soil quest in Avowed.
How To Trigger Food Theft Quest In Avowed
While exploring the area north of Fior mes Iverno, you will unlock a fast-travel beacon, and next to it is Sielo Piannini. Speaking with him reveals that a group of rebels stole his crops, and he asks you to go look for them, which triggers the Food Theft side quest. If players initiate another conversation and ask for more details, he reveals his wife is sick and in desperate need of Rose Draught.
Head to the location of the rebels by following the quest mark to arrive at Riverside Cave. Enter it, to find many non-hostile rebels hanging around. Proceed deeper and Iglaf will warn you regardless if you spared Ygwulf or not. Go deeper to finally meet Erlinn Matishell and Ortrud. Here, players are faced with quite a few options, and the attitude of the rebels depends on whether you have spared Ygwulf or not. Sparing him makes the rebels more inclined to hear you out than attack immediately.
Should You Allow The Rebels To Keep The Stolen Crops In Avowed?
There are two methods to let the rebels keep the stolen crops, as they need to eat as much as the farmers, according to Erlinn’s logic. The first one is simply agreeing with Erlinn’s logic, which earns you 350 coins in Avowed from her. So, the crops are left with the Paradisan rebels, and you return to Sielo to tell him the news. He becomes furious and tells you to get out of his sight.
The second method is to compromise. Simply tell Erlinn that the farmer’s wife is sick and she desperately needs Rose Draught. The rebels will gladly hand over the Rose Draught and keep the crops. Sielo will not be very happy with these turns of events, but you can remind him that his wife needs the medicine, and he is a farmer, so he can always plant more. Accepting the money rewards you 350 coins, or you can refuse to get the Forager’s Friend Ring, which gives 20% more health and essence from any food source.
Should You Return The Stolen Crops To Sielo In Avowed?
Similar to the last choice, there are also two methods to return the stolen crops to Sielo, but one of them depends on Ygwulf’s fate. If you have spared Ygwulf in An Untimely End quest, you can tell Erlinn “I let Ygwulf escape, didn’t I? I’m clearly not your enemy” and “All I ask is for one more gesture of goodwill” and she will hand over the stolen crops, hoping to stay on your good side as an ally. However, Iglaf will attack players on the way out, forcing Erlinn to step in and kill some of the rebels with you. You can avoid fighting him if you have high enough Resolve.
The second option is to simply attack, which is the only option you have if Ygwulf is not spared, and you wish to get the stolen crops back. This is not recommended as the entire cave will become hostile, and the situation could get messy very quickly. Once you’re done, get out of the cave and return the stolen crops to Sielo. In both methods, the farmer will offer money and if you refuse, he gives you the Forager’s Friend Ring.
