Nosferatu: A Unique Telling Of A Familiar Vampire Tale
At it’s core, Nosferatu is a movie that audiences have seen before. At least they’ve seen very similar movies that offer a familiar storyline. Nicholas Hoult and Lily Rose-Depp play Thomas and Ellen Hutter a young, up and coming couple that are just trying to make their way in the world. That world is 19th century England, where Hutter is an inexperienced partner in a law firm that ends up having one of the most terrifying clients of all time in Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok.
Orlok wants to move from his Eastern European home to London, though everything is a bit more complicated than that. The ancient noble is not simply a wealthy man looking to move himself into the more modern locale of Great Britain. He is in fact a horrible, god-forsaken and god-forsaking creature that lives an eternal life as long as he consumes human blood.
Orlok has forged a mental connection with Rose-Depp’s Ellen and believes she is the reincarnation of his long lost love. The woman that he became a vampire, just to see again, in the first place. He’s also formed a mental control over several of Ellen’s friends and acquaintances, including her husband’s boss who is so completely controlled by the monster that he loses his mind shortly after sending Thomas to meet Count Orlok and set his move to London in motion. Orlok’s plan is set in motion by also enslaving and transforming Ellen’s closest friend, Anna Harding which brings Willem Dafoe’s Professor von Franz into the picture. von Franz knows how to stop Orlok and rallies the Hutter’s friend to try and stop the monstrous, all-consuming presence. Those who watch Nosferatu when it comes to streaming with Peacock on February 21 will have to find out which side eventually wins the fight.
Why Fans Are Excited For Nosferatu’s Streaming Release
While Robert Egger’s latest project evokes memories of both the original Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, it puts its own spin on that familiar story. The director has made a name for himself with chilling tales that rely more on storytelling than jump scares in order to get under his audience’s skin.
The success of Nosferatu in theaters could have meant that there would be a longer wait for Max fans, however studios seem to understand that bringing these sorts of movies to the comfort of customers’ living rooms can be just as lucrative as keeping them running on the silver screen as long as they used to do.
What Comes Next for Nosferatu and Robert Eggers?
While there’s no indication at the moment that this interesting take on the original vampire story is going to earn a sequel, Eggers isn’t straying far. The director recently announced that his next monster movie will be a spin on the Wolfman titled Werewulf.
However, before that film comes to the big screen, Eggers’ next project could be his personal spin on a high fantasy adventure. There is talk that he’ll be putting together a remake of Labyrinth, the film that leaned heavily on Jim Henson’s workshop to bring its magical creatures to life.

In the meantime, while waiting for either of those projects to officially go into production and move closer to hitting movie screens, Robert Eggers’ fans can enjoy Nosferatu on Peacock starting on February 21.
