Nintendo Gold Points Will Be Ending In March

Nintendo launched its My Nintendo program in 2016, with players able to earn and spend Gold Points on selected rewards. In 2018, that changed, and players were able to use accumulated My Nintendo Gold Points to receive discounts on games from the Nintendo Switch’s eShop.

That’s all set to change again next month, however, with Nintendo announcing that the rewards program will be ending.

Nintendo Is Ending Its My Nintendo Gold Point Programme In March

In an announcement on the My Nintendo website, Nintendo shared that the ability to earn Gold Points will end on March 25. Players will still earn points up until this date, and those points won’t expire until a year after they were redeemed. Pre-orders made for games released ahead of the cutoff will also still earn points, but any games released after will no longer be eligible.

Nintendo hasn’t announced any changes to its Platinum Points program, so it’s safe to assume that will be staying the same, but the loss of Gold Points is likely to be a blow for some players.

Up until this point, players could earn five percent back in points for any digital Nintendo Switch purchases and one percent back for any physical game pick-ups. While not huge, the Gold Points would often provide a nice reprieve when making a bigger purchase or, in my case, go towards some smaller indie titles.

With the ability to earn Gold Points ending in late March, it’s likely Nintendo is preparing for the Switch 2 launch. A little over a week after the removal of the My Nintendo Gold Point program, the company will be hosting its Direct, showing off more details and games for its next console.
