Marvel Rivals is overhauling currency to make earning skins much, much easier

NetEase Games has started to reveal what we can expect with Marvel Rivals Season 1.5, and the way you buy cosmetics is about to change for the better. Not only that, but the dreaded triple Strategist meta is getting a nerf, alongside plenty of other hero changes across the board. We can also expect the arrival of The Thing and Human Torch, alongside a brand new map.

In Marvel Rivals, you have three different currencies. Daily and monthly challenges give you the purple Chrono Tokens, which you can exchange for skins, sprays, and other cosmetics in the battle pass. But you can also buy gold Lattice, which can be converted into blue Units to buy things from the premium store. If you’ve been grinding the multiplayer game throughout Season 1, you’ll also notice that some of the battle pass rewards are Lattice and Units. Once you finish the battle pass, however, the purple Chrono Tokens basically become useless. Not anymore.

According to a new Dev Vision video from NetEase Games, you’ll be able to use excess Chrono Tokens with Marvel Rivals Season 1.5 and beyond to purchase cosmetics directly. “We’ve heard your feedback about excess Chrono Tokens and how frustrating it can be when they don’t carry over,” creative director Guangyun ‘Guangguang’ Chen says. “So we’re excited to announce a brand-new redemption system.

“Now, you can convert those excess Chrono Tokens into Units. If you purchase the Luxury Battle Pass and redeem all its rewards, you’ll be able to convert any leftover Chrono Tokens for Units at a specific ratio.”

This is by far the biggest change coming to Marvel Rivals with the mid-season patch. We don’t know what the Chrono Token to Unit exchange ratio is just yet, but being able to redeem points from challenges and put them towards skins and other cosmetics is going to do wonders for the game. It might even make me try out other Marvel Rivals characters I can afford skins for, too.

As for the rest of Season 1.5, it’ll introduce The Thing and Human Torch as playable heroes, alongside the new Central Park map. There are plenty of changes to who you play as, too, with the dreaded triple Strategist meta getting nerfed. All Strategists that use “frequent ultimates” – I’m looking at you Luna, Mantis, and Cloak and Dagger – will take longer to charge their ults. Some Vanguards and Duelists like Venom and Magik are having their ult costs reduced, though, to make popping them off much easier.

Doctor Strange and Magneto are also having their survivability lowered to stop them from soaking up so much damage. While plenty of other heroes are being nerfed, with Storm and Moon Knight’s ultimate (thank goodness) getting brought down a peg. We’ll learn more about the specifics of the balancing when NetEase Games drops the patch notes ahead of Season 1.5.
