Latest Nintendo Music Update is a 3DS Throwback

On February 17, a new Nintendo Music update brought tunes from the Nintendo 3DS app StreetPass Mii Plaza to the service. The StreetPass Mii Plaza album on the Nintendo Music app contains 39 songs, all of which may take Nintendo 3DS fans back to when the StreetPass function was widely used.

StreetPass Mii Plaza was a built-in Nintendo 3DS app that allowed players to meet other players’ Mii avatars via the StreetPass function. A green light on the 3DS system would blink whenever StreetPass was activated, which would also be reflected in StreetPass Mii Plaza. Some of the activities featured in StreetPass Mii Plaza included the popular Puzzle Swap, which saw players collect pieces to form a picture from various Nintendo titles, such as Super Mario 3D World and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. Although StreetPass has long been discontinued, StreetPass Mii Plaza fans continue to keep the app alive at conventions.

Nintendo confirms a major update to Switch Game Vouchers ahead of the highly anticipated Switch 2 launch.

Following the release of the Super Mario World OST on Nintendo Music, Nintendo fans were treated to another throwback album. On the evening of February 17, Nintendo Music added 39 tracks from the StreetPass Mii Plaza 3DS app. After launching Nintendo Music on supported iOS and Android devices, users will see StreetPass Mii Plaza in the recent highlights section of the app. Users can tap the StreetPass Mii Plaza icon to add the game’s top 20 tracks playlist or download all 39 tracks.

Nintendo Music Adds StreetPass Mii Plaza OST

Specific tracks, such as the Entrance theme and the Find Mii title theme, are also supported by the Extended-Playback feature, which can go as long as an hour. The 39-track StreetPass Mii Plaza OST contains an hour and 23 minutes of music, so users must set aside sufficient storage space before downloading the tracks they want.

A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to access Nintendo Music. The release of the StreetPass Mii Plaza OST came just days after Nintendo Switch Online added the Game Boy Advance title Wario Land 4 to the service. However, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack upgrade, which is required to use the GBA app on Switch consoles, is not needed for Nintendo Music access.

With songs from beloved franchises like Splatoon and Pokemon added frequently, the Nintendo Music app contains playlists for all kinds of Nintendo fans to enjoy. With the addition of the StreetPass Mii Plaza OST, only time will tell when other 3DS soundtracks will arrive.
