Combat is one of the main focuses of Avowed, which is both dynamic and diverse enough to support various types of playstyles. If you prefer running the fighter class or using melee weapons in general, it’s important that you learn how to parry attacks in Avowed. Simply relying on blocking during combat isn’t optimal, as parrying lets you stagger enemies and leave them vulnerable to multiple hits.

Parrying does not require you to have a shield equipped but does work with shields similarly. However, you’ll need to keep your off-hand item slot empty to parry attacks.
If you have some skill points available, you can also upgrade the parry skills up to rank 3 in Avowed. Here’s how the parry skill will change with every upgrade.
- Rank 1: Simply unlocks the Parry Ability.
- Rank 2: Increase the Parry efficiency by 25%, which lets you inflict a greater stun on enemies.
- Rank 3: Increase the Parry efficiency by 50%.
Best Skills to Use With Parry
Parrying attacks is satisfying, and there are some other skills you can use with it to make yourself even more efficient in combat.
- Arrow Deflection: The parry ability will only allow you to deflect melee hits, but doesn’t work with ranged projectiles. It’s recommended that you activate the Arrow Deflection Ranger skill, which will help you parry/deflect arrows and other projectiles as well.
- Shield Bash: There will be times when you block attacks too soon, losing the opportunity to parry an attack. In that case, while keeping your shield up, simply press the attack button to bash your shield at the enemy, causing them to stagger.
Why Should You Parry Attacks in Avowed?
