Squid Game Season 2 debuted in December 2024 with several new faces as Gihun (Lee Jung-jae) returned to the deadly game for a purpose — to take it down. However, surprisingly, one character with many enemies and no friends remains alive. This left some fans impressed with their tenacity.

RUMOR: Squid Game Season 3 Episode Count Set to Disappoint Fans

The rumored number of episodes for Squid Game Season 3 leaked and fans might not like it.

The character in question is Lee Myung-Gi (Yim Siwan). In a thread on Reddit, one Squid Game fan shared photos of the players with their team members during the second game, Six-Legged Pentathlon. There were photos of Gihun, Thanos and Cho Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon) with their teams. However, the snap featuring Myung-Gi stood out because he was alone. “Has anyone else noticed Myung-Gi is the only character who isn’t part of a group?” the original poster wrote. The post immediately received several responses from other viewers, and many of them found him interesting. Several also felt that the character was probably crucial because he had survived and they were impressed with his survival skills.

One pointed out Myung-Gi’s lack of allies and numerous foes and how he still made it out alive. “The guy had no allies, only enemies, yet he still somehow survived. His survival skills are seriously underrated—he’s the best new player this season,” the online user commented. Another Reddit user said Myung-Gi (Jung Ho-yeon) reminded them of Sae-byeok from Season 1 because both struggled to find a team and were associated with the villains. Some fans believe Myung-Gi being a drifter than part of a team is an advantage for him because, in this way, he has no strong emotional connection with others. However, others argued that there’s a price to pay for being a drifter; for instance, other players could easily gang up on him when the lights are out.

There is no doubt that Myung-Gi is a complex character. He can be irritating, and he is definitely irresponsible for abandoning his pregnant girlfriend, Jun-hee (Jo Yu-ri), after being involved in a cryptocurrency scam. However, he is fast, strong, quick-thinker and bold, which makes him a formidable player in the fatal tournament. For instance, in the sixth episode, he is able to push Hyun-ju back into the room really quickly before the door locks during the Mingle game, leaving Young-mi (Kim Si-eun ) outside, which leads to her death. Myung-gi also killed Thanos after being attacked by the latter’s group.

Myung-Gi is difficult to read, and without any attachment to other players, he might not think twice about killing them if he needs to. However, he seems to have a change of heart when it comes to Jun-hee. Gi-hun’s team and Hyun-ju’s teams have seemingly joined forces and they all care for June-hee, so Myung-Gi might join them. Also, there is a chance that he will sacrifice himself for her and their baby. It remains unclear how many will make it out alive after Squid Game Season 3, which is the final season. Hopefully, Gi-hun and more will survive.

Squid Game Season 3 will premiere on Netflix on June 27, 2025.
