Destiny 2 players are reporting that unreleased Episode Heresy weapons, likely from Act 2, are starting to drop for players in various activities. So far, Episode Heresy has gotten off to a stronger start than the preceding episodes of Echoes and Revenant, thanks to new content and major Destiny 2 changes to activities like Trials of Osiris.
However, similar to previous episodes, Heresy has already been impacted by a number of major bugs that is leaving the community less than thrilled with the state of things. Recently, players have highlighted a number of found issues, from certain legacy activities like Onslaught: Salvation no longer functioning correctly to Destiny 2 players seeing broken animations, invisible weapons, or buffs just not working at all. The latest reported glitch appears to be more player friendly than recent bugs have been, however.

Destiny 2 players notice that the Episode Heresy update has broken other parts of the game, preventing certain activities and quests from functioning.
The Destiny 2 subReddit has lit up recently with posts indicating that certain unannounced weapons have begun appearing in the wild. Players, like Hedgyyyyyy have been sharing screenshots of these unreleased weapons, with many indicating that these appear to be upcoming Episode Heresy weapons from Act 2. Already, players have seen a Void fusion rifle known as Afterlight, a kinetic grenade launcher called Boondoggle Mk. 55, and the Void energy bow known as Anamnesis.
Destiny 2 Players Are Getting Unreleased Weapons to Drop
Interestingly enough, even though the weapons are showing as ‘???’ in the Destiny Item Manager, the weapons are fully functional and some of these Destiny 2 weapons even drop with their unique perks. With comments also confirming these drops, it appears the issue ultimately stems from Episode Heresy’s core mechanic known as the Tomb of Want. Multiple players have indicated that unreleased weapons have dropped after slotting the first box of the Tomb of Want with Episodic Weapons, while leaving the second box empty. Others have also indicated that they also used Essence of Desire, and it seemed to work as well. Either way, there seems to be a bit of randomness to this, so it isn’t guaranteed to work.
As of now, it’s unknown how Bungie plans to address these unreleased weapons dropping early or if they plan on just letting it go. The company has had and continues to have a lot on its plate in dealing with certain issues in the game, from the previously mentioned gameplay related bugs, to also addressing overpowered gear like the recently buffed Hunter’s exotic Radiant Dance Machines leg armor, which is much stronger than the studio intended.
