Pokemon GO: Mega Tyranitar Weaknesses and Resistances
In Pokemon GO, Mega Tyranitar’s impressive stat spread makes it an avid attacker with excellent defensive capabilities. Its Pokemon GO stats are spread out with the values of 309 (ATK), 276 (DEF), and 225 (STA), making the monster one of the most potent fighters.
The only thing average on its stat spread is its stamina, making it a low-end pick for endurance battles. However, as Raid Bosses are some of the most powerful creatures in the game, taking time to prepare for these encounters is important.
In Pokemon GO, Mega Tyranitar has a maximum CP of 6045 and will receive a boost in power while battling in Partly Cloudy or Fog weather, so players may wish to avoid fights under these circumstances, if possible. While it can still be worked around by players selecting a team of the best potential counters, some players may wish to avoid any potential disadvantages.
Mega Tyranitar is a Rock and Dark Dual-Type Pokemon. With this Dual-Typing, this Pokemon is weak to Bug, Fairy, Grass, Ground, Steel, Water Type Pokemon or moves, and 2x weak to Fighting Type Pokemon or moves. On the other hand, Mega Tyranitar is also resistant to Pokemon or moves of the Dark, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Normal, Poison, and Psychic Typings. For this reason, players should look to build a team that makes the most out of these weaknesses and resistances through Type coverage and advantage.

Pokemon GO also features a special effect known as the Same Type of Attack Bonus (STAB), occurring when a creature’s innate type and attack type match. Skillfully utilizing this STAB effect can lead to a victorious strategy, as moves that match the Type held by the monster in use will deal extra damage to the opponent on each hit.
Even against a formidable Mega Pokemon boss, such as Mega Tyranitar, players can assemble a team of potent monsters with the potential for STAB attacks and use them to earn victory.
To counter Mega Tyranitar, players will need to use strong Pokemon that can out-damage the beast or tank incoming hits. This is best matched with monsters who can utilize Type advantages to deliver more lethal blows.
The best counters for Mega Tyranitar have been identified below, as well as the best possible moveset to equip with each Pokemon. However, if you do not have these exact specimens, you can use this list as exemplars and then build a similar team out of the monsters you have.

Can You Get Shiny Mega Tyranitar in Pokemon GO?
After defeating Mega Tyranitar in Raid battles, there is a possibility that Trainers may encounter a shiny Tyranitar. However, this chance isn’t certain, with the average odds for these encounters being 1/64. Luckily, this is higher than the average wild encounter, which has a 1 in 500 base rate for most Pokemon.
For this reason, by grinding multiple Mega Tyranitar Raids, players will be able to provide themselves with a decent shot at meeting these lucky odds and encountering a shiny Tyranitar. This is because Tyranitar will often spawn near the location of a Mega Tyranitar Raid once completed.
By completing multiple Raids in a row, Trainers will, therefore, cause more Tyranitar to spawn – giving themselves more chances for one of them to be a lucky shiny encounter.
Once Trainers successfully obtain a shiny Tyranitar, they can evolve it into a shiny Mega Tyranitar with the use of Mega Energy. Evolving Mega Tyranitar costs 300 Mega Energy the first time and 60 Energy each time following that.
