Batman: The Brave and the Bold was one of the first projects announced when James Gunn unveiled his initial DCU slate. Full plot details weren’t divulged, but Gunn confirmed the film would center on Batman and his relationship with his son, Damien Wayne. The Flash director Andy Muschietti is attached to helm The Brave and the Bold, which will cast a new actor as the Caped Crusader so Robert Pattinson’s version of The Dark Knight can coexist in a separate universe created by The Batman director Matt Reeves. Rumor: New Star Wars Movie Could Suffer a Big Loss to the DCU

A new Star Wars movie could face a serious setback, as an insider claims it could lose someone important to one of James Gunn’s DCU movies.

During an interview with The Playlist to promote the upcoming season of Paramount Plus’ 1923, Brandon Sklenar reiterated his interest in playing the DCU’s Batman. The topic was brought up when Sklenar was asked about rumors claiming he’s a contender to play the titular role in the Nova MCU series. While Sklenar claimed these rumors were news to him, he did acknowledge that he was supposed to have a meeting with Marvel Studios. Sklenar then expressed his love for Batman and noted that it would be a dream role. Still, despite acknowledging he’s built to play Batman, timing is important.

I’ve seen a bunch of fan-casting for this Batman thing [“The Bave & The Bold”] and that’s very interesting to me, I love Batman. That would be a dream, for sure. But we’ll see what happens, I’m built for it. […] It would have to be the right thing at the right time.

Sklenar has been a popular choice for the role among fans, with one fan artist creating artwork that depicted the actor as Batman. Responding to the artwork, Sklenar wrote, “I approve.” The actor even received support from his This Ends with Us co-star Blake Lively, who said that Gunn should give “the people what they need,” referring to the Batman fan casting. Of course, Sklenar is not the only popular choice for the DCU’s Batman. Actors like Reacher star Alan Ritchson and Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles are also fan favorites for the Batman role.

Of course, Batman: The Brave and the Bold is taking longer than fans expected. Rumors claim the long wait is because Warner Bros. and DC Studios are trying to decide if they should incorporate Pattinson’s Batman into the DCU instead of having two separate Batman film franchises. Gunn and Reeves had insisted that Pattinson’s Batman would be separate from the DCU, but recent comments from both fueled rumors that DC Studios is reconsidering. If so, these popular contenders for the Batman role are out of luck.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold is in development at DC Studios.
