Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode Run Ends If You Sleep With Haarlep

Baldur's Gate 3's Honour Mode Run Ends If You Sleep With Haarlep

Summary

  • A Baldur’s Gate 3 player was attempting to beat Honour Mode, which fails if you die even once.
  • They got all the way to Act 3, only to die when bedding Haarlep.
  • Losing to Haarlep gives you an instant game over, even though the rest of your party is alive.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of fun ways to die, even outside of combat. Especially outside of combat, in fact. While these are amusing on a normal run, they can prove absolutely devastating if you’re in Honour Mode, where dying even once will bring your playthough to an end.

One unfortunate soul has just found this out the hard way, as their Honour Mode run came to a very unceremonious end in Act 3. Or, well, I guess it was pretty ceremonious, and not the worst way to go. What I’m trying to say is that they slept with Haarlep. Literal death by snu snu.

PSA: Don’t Agree To Haarlep’s Game If You’re Playing Baldur’s Gate 3 On Honour Mode

You really, really don’t want to lose your run this way

If you need a reminder how who Haarlep is, they’re the Incubus you can encounter in the House of Hope. To advance the quest, you can agree to play a game with them. You can turn them down and start a fight, or play along, and try to resist their influence. If you fail, they take over both your body and mind, and you die, giving you a game over.

As Reddit user Intelligent_Pitch_67 found out the hard way, this is absolutely enough to end your Honour Mode run. Ultimately, it’s still a death, so their attempt to beat the challenge mode came to a close when the end was in sight – all because they banged Haarlep.

As you can see in the screenshot, their companions are left to stand around awkwardly while they decide whether or not to end the campaign for good, deleting the save file, or continue without Honour Mode active. Either way, no golden dice for them this time around.

Ever since Honour Mode was introduced, players have found new and creative ways to end their runs. One died when resurrecting Gale, since his dead body lets off a necrotic aura that deals damage. Another unfortunate soul lost the game in the epilogue because they made everyone hostile. Literally moments away from winning – painful.
