A new report from an industry insider claims Ubisoft staff are “confident” that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be ready for its March release date. Assassin’s Creed Shadows was originally due to be released back in November 2024 before being delayed multiple times by Ubisoft over the past few months. While the title’s most recent delay pushed it from February to March, Ubisoft now appears to be confident that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will not be delayed again.
After multiple layoffs throughout 2024 and the recent closure of Ubisoft Lemington back in January, the studio is likely hoping for Assassin’s Creed Shadows to be a big hit with players. The series’ outing to feudal Japan has been requested by Assassin’s Creed fans for many years, but a report back in 2024 claimed that there have been numerous issues with the game’s development. Ubisoft Quebec reportedly pushed for a delay for several months so that it could address “cultural and historical accuracy concerns” raised by the community, as well as to iron out any bugs. After being delayed from November 2024 to February 2025, Ubisoft once again hit fans with another delay, this time to March 20, 2025. However, the studio is supposedly confident that this is the final setback.

Ubisoft Reportedly Confident in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release Date
In a new report from Insider Gaming, industry insider Tom Henderson claimed that multiple sources within Ubisoft have claimed that the studio is “confident” that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20, 2025. According to Henderson’s sources within Ubisoft, the studio has made preparations to increase its marketing for the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. One developer at Ubisoft even told Henderson that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is “pretty much done,” which means the odds of another delay are slim, but definitely not impossible. At the time of writing, Ubisoft has not announced that Assassin’s Creed Shadows has gone gold.
Although the next Assassin’s Creed game has had a rocky development cycle, it doesn’t appear to have had an impact on its pre-orders. According to Ubisoft, pre-orders for Assassin’s Creed Shadows are “solid,” but the studio did not provide any concrete numbers. However, Ubisoft did state in a quarterly earnings call that the game’s pre-orders were similar to that of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which is one of the most successful entries in the series. With over 4 weeks still to go until the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, pre-orders will likely continue to rise.
Pre-orders may show a positive sign for the title, but Assassin’s Creed Shadows hasn’t been without controversy. A recent clip showing Yasuke (one of Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ two playable protagonists) destroying a Japanese shrine recently went viral on social media, with a vocal minority claiming that the act is disrespectful. However, many other fans were quick to defend Ubisoft and noted that players control their actions within the game. As there is no forced requirement for players to destroy shrines, this action comes solely from the individual playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
