What’s Next For Broly in the Dragon Ball Super Manga?

When Broly made his debut in the franchise, he was immediately singled out as not only one of the strongest characters in the Dragon Ball, but one of the series’ most imposing and terrifying villains. This man was a threat to entire galaxies, so when fans saw him for the first time, they immediately fell in love with him and began to ask for the character to be introduced into the canon.

Their prayers were officially answered in 2018 with the groundbreaking Dragon Ball Super: Broly film. This incredible movie finally brought him into the canon but did so in a far better and more sustainable way, making him a much more sympathetic figure who simply couldn’t control his otherworldly powers due to his harsh living conditions and childhood. Eventually, he is brought into the fold of things and is now training with Goku and Vegeta, so let’s see what the future of the series holds for this fan-favorite character.

How Broly Is Now A Main Character

When he was first shown, Broly was an incredibly powerful madman who singlehandedly took out every member of the Z-Fighters. The main reason why he was so beloved was because of his masochistic personality and ruthless attitude, which is why many fans felt it was a joy watching him make short work of the universe’s most important protectors. However, his backstory in his canon debut was far more tragic.

He had spent his entire life reeling from abuse and terrible living conditions that, paired with his unnatural potential as a Saiyan, made him an absolute powerhouse who had no control over his power. This was the biggest driving force behind his story arc at the end of the Broly movie since Goku found out that he wasn’t causing any of this destruction mindfully and that he needed proper training to harness his strength. Goku eventually recruited him into the Z-Fighters so he could train with him, Vegeta, Beerus, Whis, and Gohan.

The last fans saw of Broly, he was finally taking part in the training, where he struggled to hone his power for a time. Eventually, through his sparring match with Gohan, he learned from the Beast transformation how to control his rage and potential, prompting him to unlock his Full Powered Super Saiyan form, where he retains all of his awesome power but retains his sanity, making him one of the multiverse’s most powerful fighters.

The future of where he can go from here is a mystery, one which honestly depends on where the story takes him. However, there are quite a few directions that many believe await Broly in the future, particularly having to do with how he can accrue even more power, seeing as how the general level of strength in the series seems to be increasing, as it always has. When the eventual Black Frieza arc comes around, every Saiyan needs to be at their strongest to defeat the series’ most iconic villain in his most powerful form.

With the introduction of Super Saiyan 4 into the canon with Episode 18 of Dragon Ball Daima, fans believe that this form will come to Super through Broly as it fits his arc and role as a berserker powerhouse perfectly. Of all the Saiyans in the series, Super Saiyan 4 suits Broly the best by far.

A Potential Fusion With Gohan

The Chance For The Strongest Fusion in the Franchise

Another common theory regarding the future of Broly in Dragon Ball Super has to do with another power-up, but this one is something that would change the power hierarchy of the series forever. The Saiyan fusions in the franchise, particularly Vegito and Gogeta, are the most powerful mortals that have ever existed, but many fans wholeheartedly believe that if Broly and Gohan were to fuse, the resulting fusion would be even greater than that.

This mostly has to do with the potential of each character, since these Saiyans hold the power to transform into Ultra Instinct-level fighters through rage alone, negating any of the training that Goku and Vegeta need to do the same. Now, if they fuse into a character who multiplies this insane potential, they could probably be even stronger than Beerus, seeing as how Gohan Beast matched Ultra Instinct Goku and Broly was implied to be equal to him.
