These deaths in One Piece were the most tragic in the franchise.
Many competent fighters in One Piece are proficient in one or two specific styles – like Rokushiki to Fish-Man Karate – which helps them stand out while placing them among some of the strongest characters in the series. But the only question is: how do these amazing fighting styles stack up against each other?
8
Hasshoken
Notable Users: Don Chinjao, Sai, Boo
- First Appearance: Chapter 715 (Manga) Episode 645 (Anime)
The infamous Chinjao Family of the Happo Navy specializes in a particular martial art named Hasshoken, which allows its users to control the vibrations of their bodies to generate potent shockwaves that increase the power of their physical attacks. This may not seem all that impressive at first but, thanks to his mastery of Hasshoken, Don Chinjao was once able to go toe-to-toe against the mighty Monkey D. Garp.
His grandsons Sai and Boo also became quite efficient at wielding this particular shockwave-based fighting style. Not only did they perform quite well at the Corrida Colosseum tournament, but Sai also went on to defeat Lao G of the Donquixote Pirates and became a member of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Needless to say, the raw power of Hasshoken is enhanced by Armament Haki.
7
Ryusoken
Notable Users: Sabo
- First Appearance: Chapter 737 (Manga) Episode 670 (Anime)
Way before he even ate a Devil Fruit, Sabo of the Revolutionary Army specialized in a noteworthy fighting style named Ryusoken, which focuses on the use of hands and fingers to form the crushing grip of a mighty dragon. Of course, the strength of this martial art is especially increased by the use of Armament Haki, which made Sabo a huge threat to any Marine officer or evil pirate who tried to confront him.
But Sabo’s Ryusoken got even more powerful after he ate the Mera Mera no Mi, which now allowed him to combine his deadly grip with burning flames. Thanks to this perfect combination of abilities, Sabo now has immense physical strength and can also attack his enemies with scorching fire, just like an actual dragon.

Okama Kenpo / Newkama Kempo
Notable Users: Bon Clay, Emporio Ivankov, Caroline
- First Appearance: Chapter 160 (Manga) Episode 103 (Anime)
The existence of Okama Kenpo and its upgraded version, Newkama Kempo, perfectly illustrates how bizarre yet oddly satisfying the One Piece world is, because these are the fighting styles that have helped the Okamas become some of the strongest and most respected fighters in the entire series.

First introduced by Bon Clay, Okama Kempo is centered on the idea of using elegant ballet moves to perform strong kicks. Whereas Newkama Kempo is far more ambitious, as it allows Emporio Ivankov to combine his physical strength with his makeup and clothing to perform some surprisingly effective attacks. In a certain way, both forms of Okama Kempo are quite inspiring, because it allows these beloved Okamas to make good use of their unique features and personalities, while also allowing them to fully express themselves in the process.
5
Shuron Hakke
Notable Users: Kaido
- First Appearance: Chapter 1037 (Manga) Episode 1064 (Anime)
There are many reasons why Kaido is considered the “Strongest Creature” of the One Piece world, like his massive physical build, his many years of fighting experience, his ability to use all forms of Haki, and his incredible Devil Fruit, a Mythical Zoan that allows him to transform into a giant flying dragon. But, if all that wasn’t enough, he has also come up with and mastered his unique fighting style, Shuron Hakke, which makes good use of his alcoholic tendencies.
This technique works similarly to the classic Drunken Fist martial art, as it allows Kaido to enter a frantic drunken state in which he becomes completely unpredictable, while also enhancing the strength of his own Haki. With his sudden mood swings and his new ability to quickly change between his different Zoan forms, Kaido is definitely at his most dangerous whenever he decides to use Shuron Hakke.
4
Black Leg Style
Notable Users: Sanji, Zeff
- First Appearance: Chapter 54 (Manga) Episode 25 (Anime)
Sanji is one of many Straw Hat Pirates who hasn’t eaten a Devil Fruit and thus, he needs a proficient fighting style to match his crewmates in terms of battle abilities. He never had a problem with this, however, since he’s a master of Black Leg Style, which focuses on the use of legs and kicks, so Sanji doesn’t need to stain his precious hands, the most valuable body part of a true chef.
He learned this particular fighting style from his master and adoptive father, Zeff, who at one point was so proficient at using it that he was also known as Red-Leg Zeff because his legs would always end up covered in the blood of his enemies. Throughout the story, Sanji uses Black Leg Style to take part in some of the most entertaining and satisfying battles in the series, not to mention that he was able to defeat powerful opponents like Kuroobi, Jabra, and Queen. On top of all that, the strongest and most important technique in Black Leg Style’s entire repertoire is Diable Jambe, which allows Sanji to heat up his leg to land some destructive fiery kicks.
3
Three Sword Style
Notable Users: Roronoa Zoro, Jigoro, Humandrills, Isshin Dojo Students
- First Appearance: Chapter 6 (Manga) Episode 3 (Anime)
One Piece is filled to the brim with strong swordfighters, and they all have their unique fighting style that depends on how many swords they can wield at the same time. Nevertheless, if there’s one particular style that has shined throughout the series, it’s Three Sword Style AKA Santoryu, which was created and popularized by none other than Roronoa Zoro of the Straw Hat Pirates.

Not every devil fruit is created equally. Some hold special importance in One Piece.
As its name implies, Three Sword Style lets Zoro fight by wielding three katanas at the same time: one in each hand and a third one in his mouth. As extravagant as this may initially seem, the Pirate Hunter has managed to become a formidable swordfighter thanks to it, since it allows him to create devastating and over-the-top moves and techniques that combine the sharpness of his three katanas at the same time, like Oni Giri or Ichidai Sanzen Daisen Sekai. After defeating deadly opponents like Daz Bones, Pica, and King, there’s no denying that Zoro’s deep understanding of Three Sword Style is helping him get closer to Dracule Mihawk’s power level, and he will soon achieve the title of “Strongest Swordsman in the World.”
2
Rokushiki
Notable Users: Rob Lucci, Kaku, Stussy, Koby
- First Appearance: Chapter 343 (Manga) Episode 242 (Anime)
Many World Government agents and Marine officers have learned the art of Rokushiki, an incredibly strong fighting style that allows them to use six unique techniques in battle: Geppo, Tekkai, Rankyaku, Soru, Shigan, and Kami-e. These are all incredibly useful and efficient by themselves, but those few who have managed to master all of them have become deadly assassins and true beasts in battle.
Rob Lucci is the most famous user of Rokushiki, who combines it with his terrifying Leopard Devil Fruit to attack and kill all of his targets. He has gained such a perfect mastery of the fighting style that he was even able to unlock Rokuogan, the devastating secret seventh technique. Other prominent Rokushiki users include Kaku, Stussy, Who’s Who, and Koby, and they are all much stronger thanks to it. Even some pirates, like Monkey D. Luffy and Sanji, have co-opted some of the techniques, which proves how incredibly useful and versatile Rokushiki truly is.
1
Fish-Man Karate / Fish-Man Jujutsu
Notable Users: Jinbe, Aladine, Kuroobi, Koala, Nico Robin
- First Appearance: Chapter 84 (Manga) Episode 39 (Anime)
Characters who have mastered the martial art known as Fish-Man Karate have a significant advantage in battle because they can freely manipulate the water around them or in the air to perform some incredibly powerful attacks, something that is especially important in a world surrounded by the ocean and in which Devil Fruit users are weak to its water. The most prominent user of Fish-Man Karate is Jinbe, a former Warlord of the Sea and a member of the Straw Hat Pirates.
He’s also a respected master of Fish-Man Jujutsu, another similar fighting style that’s centered on using water to grapple and throw enemies. By perfecting both of these aquatic martial arts, Jinbe was able to use incredible techniques, such as Karakusagawara Seiken, Gosenmaigawara Shuto, and Uzushio Ipponzeoi to defeat the Jailer Beasts, Who’s-Who, and many other formidable opponents. The best part about Fish-Man Karate and Fish-Man Jujutsu is that they can also be learned by humans, and not just Fish-Men or Merfolk. Both Koala and Nico Robin have managed to add Fish-Man Karate to their arsenal and have become much stronger thanks to it.
