Real by Takehiko Inoue will release a new chapter soon. A few years after concluding Slam Dunk, Inoue started a new basketball manga titled Real. While Slam Dunk ran in Shonen Jump (One Piece, Sakamoto Days), Real is serialized in Young Jump (Oshi no Ko, Kingdom) Shueisha’s biggest seinen magazine.
Real is a wheelchair basketball manga – one of the few sports manga focusing on a Paralympic sport. For many, it is even better than Slam Dunk (the series are unrelated, but some suspect they are set in the same universe). Most of the characters are marginalized people who love to play basketball. Real has been serialized since 1999, but the series has gone through a long hiatus from 2014 to 2019. Luckily, a new chapter will be released later this month.

Real Chapter 100 Release Date
Although Young Jump is a weekly magazine, Inoue currently drops a new chapter every 3 months – this latest chapter (Chapter 99) came out in November 2024. While the series follows a regular schedule, it is also a sparse one, and fans are sometimes confused.
Chapter 100 will be released in the upcoming Young Jump issue set for February 26, 2025. Chapter 101 is expected to be out in May, but this is yet to be confirmed.
Where to Read Real Officially
Chapters are also added to the YanJan service (Young Jump‘s version of the Shonen Jump+ service) in Japanese – a few chapters can be read for free, but most need to be bought using coins.
VIZ Media licenses the series in the US, but, unfortunately, VIZ does not publish individual chapters simultaneously with the Japanese release. While Shonen Jump gets chapters published globally at the same time, most Young Jump titles are not published simultaneously, so fans need to wait for the next volume to keep up with the series.
Another Famous Manga By Inoue Is On Hiatus
Real is not the only series written by Takehiko Inoue that has gone through hiatuses. Another, more famous title that has been on a break for a long time is Vagabond.
However, different from Real, it seems Vagabond won’t be returning anytime soon – the latest chapter was released in 2015. Despite the hiatus, there are studios interested in animating Vagabond.
Real volumes are published in North America by VIZ Media. The latest volume released by VIZ is Volume 15 (16 volumes have been published in Japan).
