Ubisoft has confirmed that it’s about to reinvent its premiere tactical shooter: Rainbow Six Siege X is finally on the way. The studio describes it as “a new era” for the game, with a suite of upgrades across the entire experience. Siege is turning ten years old this year, and Ubisoft is celebrating the milestone with a new season, operator, and this sequel in all but name.
After rumors swirled that a sequel/reinvention was on the way, Ubisoft has given us a glimpse of what to expect. Rainbow Six Siege X is “the biggest transformation in the game’s history,” and is stacked with “graphical and audio upgrades, deepened tactical gameplay, and new ways to play the game.” We don’t entirely know what the multiplayer game’s new version will look like just yet, but this is a solid indication that Siege X will represent a huge leap in quality.
As of right now, leaks place the Rainbow Six Siege X launch alongside Year 10 Season 2 – which should be around June 2025. Ubisoft hasn’t just teased Siege X, however – it’s given us a look at what’s coming as Year 9 wraps up. The first season is called Operation Prep Phase, and includes the new Rainbox Six Siege operator Rauora.

The new character comes with two primary weapons to pick between: the 417 designated marksman rifle or the M249 light machine gun. She also has the GSH-18 9mm pistol and the Reaper MK2 machine pistol as her secondary options. The biggest part of Rauora’s kit is easily the Deployable Omnilink Mesh (D.O.M.) Launcher, though. This “bulletproof smart cover system” can only be deployed in doorways, blocking them off entirely. But the D.O.M can also open up and let drones pass underneath it.
Rainbow Six Siege X is coming at the right time for Ubisoft. The studio has delayed the Assassin’s Creed Shadows release date multiple times, its free-to-play shooter XDefiant is shutting down after just over a year, and Star Wars Outlaws wasn’t the sci-fi megahit the developer hoped for. Rainbow Six Siege, on the other hand, is still a huge success, so here’s hoping the X revamp goes well.
Ubisoft is airing the Rainbow Six Siege X showcase on Thursday March 13 at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT and Friday March 14 at 5am AEDT. The reveal will take place on the Rainbow Six Siege Twitch channel.
