One Piece is a live-action series based on Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga of the same name. It follows Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they travel to find the legendary treasure known as “One Piece.” The first season premiered on Netflix in 2023 and it was a huge hit, with many praising it for being faithful to its source material. Many love its engaging storyline, acting and costumes. So it wasn’t surprising that the streaming giant renewed the show for another season. However, there are rumors that a third season is already on the cards.

New One Piece Season 2 Photo Features Anime-Inspired Costume For This Fan Favorite Character

A new promo for One Piece Season 2 features a fan-favorite character rocking an anime-inspired costume.

Earlier this month, Pew, who claimed to be the go-to source for all news related to One Piece, shared a photo for the second season on X, formerly Twitter. The picture featured the five main characters: Santi (Taz Skylar), Roronoa Zoro (Mackenyu), Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy), Nami (Emily Rudd) and Usopp (Jacob Romero). It was accompanied by a caption that read, “ONE PIECE LIVE ACTION IS CONFIRMED TO HAVE A SEASON 3 !” In a separate tweet, Pew clarified that “Season 3 has not been officially announced by Netflix yet” before referring to a listing on the Writers Guild of America directory. There’s not much information about the third season. However, it listed Joseph E Tracz and Matt Owens as showrunners and executive producers. The release window was also listed as 2025 – 2026.

Pew asked the other fans how many seasons they expect. One said if the next seasons would be as good as the first one, they were open for a “full adaptation,” which could take about 20 seasons. Another shared the same sentiment, expressing interest in having more seasons, writing, “25~30 more seasons, the actors will look slightly older, but it’s fine.” A different X user suggested, “probably 6 would love 8 at least and to complete it maybe 10-12.” Meanwhile, another was hoping for six seasons, while a different user believed eight or nine seasons would do, ending the story at Marineford. It appeared that many wanted the live-action adaptation to last until the Marineford story arc. However, some felt it would not go past 3 to 5 seasons because One Piece is “popular but super expensive to make.”

One Piece Season 3 is likely to happen for several reasons. First, Season 1 was a massive success with strong viewership. It was even among the most-watched shows following its release. Second, per ScreenRant, the story for the next season is split into two parts, so Season 3 is indeed happening. The outlet even suggested that the third one should be released in 12 to 18 months. According to reports, One Piece Season 2 will likely feature Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, and Drum Island arcs, leading into Arabasta. If the second season follows the Arabasta saga’s setup, it only made sense for Season 3 to happen with Crocodile’s major storyline. Croc’s storyline will likely be featured because Netflix has already cast Joe Manganiello to play the character. Manganiello confirmed his casting in a post on Instagram, which received positive responses from fans who approved of the casting, saying he was perfect for the role.

One Piece Season 2 is expected to be out later in 2025 or early 2026.
