Magic: The Gathering has spent the last few years picking up an impressive roster of third party crossovers, with everything from Fortnite to Warhammer 40,000 popping up in the game.

With so many characters under its belt, the MTG community is now asking a rather interesting question: which actor has had the most characters get their own cards in MTG? The answer isn’t quite as straightforward as it may first seem.

Reddit user /u/Arcades1212 first asked the question on the MagicTCG subreddit, by pointing out Scottish actor Sylvester McCoy has had two cards: The Seventh Doctor from the Doctor Who Commander decks, and also Radagast the Brown, who he played in The Hobbit. However, as commenters pointed out, he is hardly the only one.

Nobody Has More Than Two Yet

Another major Doctor Who actor also has an equal amount of cards. Donna Noble, of course, appeared in the Doctor Who decks as well, but Catherine Tate also played the face of one of the Warhammer 40,000 decks, Inquisitor Greyfax, in the 2019 audio drama boxset Our Martyred Lady.

While no actor so far has more than two cards, plenty more have two. Brad Dourif and Christopher Lee also have two each, with the former playing both Chucky (seen in the Child’s Play Secret Lair drop) and The Lord of the Rings’ Grima Wormtongue, and the latter playing Saruman and Dracula, who appeared in a skinned chase card for Innistrad: Crimson Vow in 2021.

The Transformers cards from The Brothers War gave us Optimus Prime and Megatron, played by Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. They both also appeared in the Saturday morning Dungeons & Dragons cartoons as Venger and Uni the Unicorn. Venger appeared on the cover of the latest Dungeon Masters’ Guide, and therefore also in the D&D: An Exhbition Of Adventure Secret Lair drop, and Uni the Unicorn in the much earlier Saturday Morning D&D Drop.

Some in the Reddit thread mention David Tennant, as he played the Tenth Doctor and the Fourteenth Doctor 14 years apart. They are both incarnations of the same character, though, so whether this counts is entirely up to you.

Karen Gillan And Laura Bailey Are The Ones To Watch

Like most, Karen Gillan already has two cards with Amy Pond, and her earlier Who role of a Sibylline Soothsayer. However, she’s also incredibly likely to get another card in the near future, with a high chance of the upcoming Marvel crossovers eventually giving us a Nebula card, who she plays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As more crossovers launch, we’ll likely see this list skyrocket, with Laura Bailey as a clear contender. This year will see the release of the Final Fantasy and Spider-Man crossover sets, which could well see Laura Bailey launch ahead as both the voice of Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man, and Serah Farron in Final Fantasy 13. She’s already in Magic twice, as Street Fighter’s Chun-Li and Magic’s own Chandra Nalaar, putting her well ahead of anyone else.
