There has been a lot of speculation around the Metroid Prime series lately. Some fans have suggested that Metroid Prime 4 will come out in or after April 2025, possibly as a cross-gen launch title for the Switch 2. What to Expect From Metroid Prime 4: Beyond in 2025
Metroid Prime 4 currently has a release date scheduled for 2025, which has raised expectations to new heights despite the game’s troubled development.
The latest rumor comes from leaker Nash Weedle, who tweeted on February 16 that Metroid Prime 5 is in development. It’s worth noting that Nash Weedle correctly predicted the release of Metroid Dread in 2021, which was an unexpected release but became one of the best Metroid games in recent memory. It’s also not unheard of for studios to develop multiple titles within the same franchise alongside each other, although this is more common in series with annual releases. If the rumor is true, Retro may already be fairly far along in development, as Nash Weedle claims it will come out sometime in 2027.
Leaker Claims Metroid Prime 5 Will Launch on the Switch 2 in 2027
Two years between releases is not outside of Nintendo’s character, either. Mainline Pokemon games tend to come out every three to five years with spin-offs or DLC in between. While Metroid has not followed this pattern, it’s at least not unreasonable to think a new Metroid Prime game could come out two years after the launch of another. Still, few, if any, other sources have corroborated Nash Weedle’s claim so far, and not all of their leaks have proven to be true in the past, so it’s hard to say how reliable the rumor is as yet.
If the rumor is true, Metroid Prime 5 will likely be a Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo has said that it plans on continuing to support the original Switch after the next console’s launch, but that doesn’t mean it won’t release exclusive titles for the newer hardware. All in all, though, any rumors about Metroid Prime 5 right now should face some scrutiny, at least until there’s more news from Nintendo, Retro, or other industry insiders on what the future of the series may look like.
