Summary

  • The show could feature a distinct presentation of this group, potentially delving deeper into their backstory.
  • Fans might get more lore, first-hand experiences, and backstory on the dangerous cult in the upcoming season.

HBO’s The Last of Us has been one of the most exciting gaming adaptations in a long time. Although fans of the franchise aren’t too sure just yet how much of the sequel will be faithfully adapted, season two looks set to again bombard viewers with a host of tragedies and heartbreaking encounters. With only a few more months to go before Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey grace eager viewers with their incredible acting talents, some fans believe that season two will dive deeper into one notorious faction than previously thought.

The Last of Us stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, main characters from Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic video game series who were thrown together while the world burned. Season one of the HBO series covered the entirety of the first The Last of Us game, while season two will take on the horrific and challenging narrative of The Last of Us Part 2. Even though season one introduced its audience to nine action-packed and emotionally charged episodes, this time around viewers will get a few short when season 2 returns with only seven. However, there doesn’t seem to be any evidence to suggest that this lack of episodes will ruin the excitement for fans, as some think that a lot more could be packed in this time, especially regarding one specific group.

Last of Us Fans Think Season 2 Will Explore the Seraphites in More Depth

Seraphite Prophet The Last of Us Part 2

For those who haven’t yet played The Last of Us Part 2, the Seraphites, also called Scars, are a primitivist cult and antagonistic faction who are at war with the Washington Liberation Front (WLF) for control over Seattle in the sequel. Their mysterious prophet was critical to the establishment of the Seraphite cult and claimed to know the reason why the Cordyceps infection was plaguing society. Before her death, her beguiling sermons imprisoned the minds of the community’s residents, convincing them that the infection was caused by humanity’s sin and so, the virus was a second chance for people to redeem themselves.

Over on Reddit, Last of Us fans believe that the Seraphites and their backstory could play a bigger feature in season 2 of The Last of Us due to HBO Programmer Francesca Orsi’s recent interview with Deadline. In the article, Orsi states, “There’s certain elements in terms of the various factions that are competing for survival that reveal themselves as a really intriguing survivalist group, and I think they just have a quality to them that feels distinct in how they present it,” Orsi continues. “There’s a certain way [the show] is presenting them in wardrobe and makeup that feels really different than the average person.”

Although Orsi doesn’t mention the Seraphites directly, the discussion around “presenting them in wardrobe and makeup” sounds like it could be this particular faction due to their uniform style attire, which consists of dark pants, black shoes, white undershirts, and hooded leather trench coats, with both men and women dressing identically; the only difference is that men shave their heads while women wear their hair in a braided crown style. Every other faction typically wears normal clothes, so this could be a slight tease that fans may see more backstory, first-hand experiences, and lore regarding this highly dangerous and religious cult when season 2 rolls around.

HBO hasn’t set an official release date as yet for The Last of Us Season 2, but we do know it will arrive sometime in April.
