City of the Wolves Announces Open Beta Start Date

Fatal Fury: City of Wolves has revealed fresh details about its forthcoming open beta period, which is set to take place from February 20 to February 24, 2025, across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Developed by Japanese developer SNK, Fatal Fury: City of Wolves is the first entry in the fighting game franchise in nearly 26 years.

Fatal Fury, an IP that kicked off way back in 1991 with the release of Fatal Fury: King of Fighters, was first revealed to be making a comeback in 2022. In the restless years that have followed since then, the much-awaited action game, which is a sequel to 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves, has been announced to be coming on April 24, 2025, for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. After drip-feeding glimpses of the game’s content to anticipating fans over the past few months, SNK has finally announced the open beta duration for the new Fatal Fury title alongside other information.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves devs shared that the game’s open beta will start on February 20 at 12 AM PST or 3 AM EST, whereas it will end on February 24 at 11:59 PM PST or 2:59 AM EST. The playable game modes for this duration have been revealed to be Ranked Match, Casual Match, Room Match, and Tutorial. An eight-person roster will be available during this beta phase, featuring: B. Jenet, Hotaru Futaba, Kain R. Heinlein, Mai Shiranui, Preecha, Rock Howard, Terry Bogard, Vox Reaper. Moreover, the beta will also feature four different stages to fight in, namely, B. Port, Freight Express, Training, and Training Ground.

It’s worth noting that, unlike a few other open beta games, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves doesn’t support save data carry-over. In other words, players’ saves from the open beta session won’t be transferable to the full version when the game launches in April. Moreover, SNK’s announcement explicitly stated that the forthcoming beta doesn’t require players on console to have any kind of active subscription. This is in contrast to another highly anticipated game, Monster Hunter Wilds, that made the first few days of its first open beta period exclusively available to PS Plus subscribers.

Apart from its open beta details, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves recently shed light on its Season Pass 1 content as well. The planned DLC, which comes as part of the Special Edition bundle, will bring a host of different additions to the game’s roster, from Ken and Chun-Li from the Street Fighter series to Mr Big from the Art of Fighting IP.
