It’s a hard thing to face, but let’s face it together – The Elder Scrolls 6 is probably still a long way off. On the brighter side, we must be closer to the finish line than the starting blocks, given that it was revealed five and a half years ago at this point. Lord, I hope we are. I’ve been loosely optimistic that we’ll hear more about TES 6 in 2025, and Bethesda has just (kinda) proved me right. Before you get too excited, no, it’s not a new trailer, gameplay details, or even a vague Todd Howard quote. What it is though is an opportunity for you to be immortalized in The Elder Scrolls 6 as one of the game’s NPCs.

When The Elder Scrolls 6 does finally arrive, it’ll undoubtedly be one of the biggest gaming moments of the decade – please, please let it be this decade… That’s not just because predecessor Skyrim is one of the best RPGs of all time. It’s because it comes with huge pressure on its shoulders, too. While I and many others found enjoyment in Starfield, it certainly wasn’t Bethesda’s finest work, so it needs to deliver. Plus, we’ve seen other beloved RPG series falter in recent years – Dragon Age, most recently. Is there a world where The Elder Scrolls succumbs to a similar fate? Let’s hop not.

That mix of excitement, anticipation, and a small dose of nervousness is making the wait for The Elder Scrolls 6 release date (and the lack of new information and updates on the game) agonizing. However, here’s something you can get (literally) invested in.

As part of a huge charity auction for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which helps make the dreams of seriously and terminally ill children come true, Bethesda is offering up an awesome prize: the opportunity to help create an NPC in The Elder Scrolls 6. Whether you choose to put yourself in Tamriel, or cook up an entirely novel character, is your choice.

“With this exclusive experience, you’ll work with the developers to create a custom character that will appear in the game, leaving your mark on the legendary franchise,” Bethesda says.

Of course, as this is an auction (and a highly desirable prize) it’s going to cost you. A lot.

At the time of writing, roughly an hour after it was announced, bidding for Bethesda’s lot for the custom TES 6 NPC stands at $3,850, which roughly equates to just over £3,000. I expect that number to rise a fair amount. You can track its progress, or bid yourself if you’re fortunate enough to have those kinds of funds, right here.

So, there’s a rare (and slightly unexpected) piece of The Elder Scrolls 6 news. I’m still holding out hope that this summer could be the one where we get a fresh trailer or new details about the upcoming PC game, but only time will tell. Until then, here are some of the best games like Skyrim to keep you occupied.
