Summary
- A good party composition is crucial in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth for tackling late-game boss fights.
- The classic trio of Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith is popular for early-game synergy and strong abilities.
- Experiment with compositions like Cloud, Red XIII, Barret for pure damage, or Cloud, Yuffie, and Red XIII for late-game specialists.
One of the most important aspects of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is having a good party composition. Although you may think that you can just roam around with just your favorite party members and kill everything, that will not be the case in the late game, and you will need to pick the best team possible to get through those boss fights with ease.

How familiar are these iconic locations from Final Fantasy 7?
Every character in the game has unique skills, which can make choosing the best composition tough. In this article, we will list some of the best party compositions we’ve experimented with that perfectly complement each other and have great synergy.
Updated on February 8, 2025, by Kyle Chamaillard: Now that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is available on PC, we’ve decided to revisit this list to include even more team compositions worth trying.

Cloud, Tifa, And Aerith
The Classic Combo
Undoubtedly, the most popular team composition in the game is that of Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith. Many players choose to go with these three on the frontlines and there is nothing wrong with that, as these characters are some of the best in the early game. Cloud is a fantastic all-round character, Tifa is great at doing physical damage, and Aerith and her mix of damage and supporting abilities make this a great combination.
A great strategy for this composition is to increase the stagger multiplier using Tifa’s Unfettered Fury for the early parts of the fight before heading in to deal a lot of damage with Cloud. Aerith can play the supportive role where she can use her abilities to weaken enemies by targeting their weaknesses and use her different spells to heal herself and her teammates throughout the fight.
Some of the best Synergy attacks in this composition include Synchro Cyclone, where Cloud and Tifa combine to cause a lot of damage to their opponents while also giving them both unlimited MP. Another great option is the Divine Punishment, where Aerith creates a magic field, in which Tifa can get inside and easily take down enemies. Some other great options for this trio include the Firework Blade and the United Refocus.

Cloud, Tifa, And Barret
The All-Rounders
This composition works similarly to the last one and just swaps out Aerith with Barret to focus on causing as many types of damage as possible. Instead of Aerith’s magical spells to provide support from the back, Barret uses his long-range abilities to help the team and provide solid defense. Barret also has some of the highest HP in the game, which makes him a great character to hold onto the healing materia.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: 7 Bosses Compared To The Original
Naturally, there are several changes in the bosses’ department when it comes to how they look and fight in FF7 Rebirth.
The strategy for this composition should be similar to the last one, which is combining Tifa and Cloud’s abilities to stagger and damage opponents and cause as much damage as possible. Some of Barret’s abilities, such as his Bonus Round, are great additions to this tactic, as it uses his guns to increase stagger further and strengthen his attacks. You can also choose to use haste from the time materia on Barret, as it increases the party’s ATB gauge quickly, allowing Tifa to stagger even more opponents.
The Avalanche Two-Step is a great synergy ability between Barret and Tifa, which not only causes a lot of physical damage but also extends the stagger gauge and potency. Another one of Barret’s synergy abilities is Friendly Fire, which can be used to cause AoE damage. The Iron Defense is also a great synergy ability that can be used to pull an ally out of trouble, which is especially helpful for helping Cloud in this composition.

Cloud, Aerith, And Yuffie
Feels Like Magic
This might not seem like a powerful trio at first, but Cloud, Aerith, and Yuffie have stellar battle chemistry that allows them to deal massive amounts of damage together. With Cloud in the front line, Yuffie in the middle, and Aerith as the support character, you’ll have all of your bases covered as the three of them use powerful attacks and spells to annihilate any threat.
Your main focus with this line-up should be on Yuffie and Aerith specifically, who are a lethal duo when used correctly. One of the best strategies is to give Yuffie powerful materia like Comet and use Aerith’s abilities, like ATB Ward and Arcane Ward, to allow her to use a non-stop flurry of skills. This works especially well after using Yuffie’s Doppelgänger ability, allowing her to use these moves multiple times without having to wait very long.
Cloud’s role here is to be the best soldier he can be by slashing away at enemies with his own abilities to lower their health and raise their stagger meter. You also have access to some powerful synergy attacks, like Aerith and Yuffie’s Mystic Manipulation, which unleashes a group of Yuffie clones to deal damage and provides both characters with unlimited MP for a short time.
4
Cloud, Barret, And Cait Sith
Guardians Of The Cat
Cait Sith is a divisive character both in and out of combat, but the little guy can deal huge amounts of damage with a bit of luck. The best way to maximize his potential is to keep him safe from harm by using two of the best bodyguards in the game. Cloud and Barret are great at keeping enemies busy while Cait Sith stays behind and waits for the right time to pounce.
For the most success, you’ll want to make Cait Sith’s luck stat as high as possible and must use his Moogle in battle to use his best attacks. Both Roll O’ The Dice and Fortune Telling have a chance of dealing low to high amounts of damage, but when they hit hard, they can deal more damage than some of the other character’s best moves. Moogle Knuckle is another essential skill that quickly staggers and damages opponents, especially if it lands a critical hit.
Being paired with Cloud and Barret also allows Cait Sith to use two of his best synergy abilities. Mayhem-Go-Round allows Cait Sith and Barret to attack multiple enemies at a large range, and SOLDIER Moogle Class lets Cloud and the cat unleash a deadly attack and temporarily increases both of their limit levels.
3
Barret, Yuffie, And Aerith
The Magic Team
Although this composition won’t be valid in your first playthrough of the game, as you can only remove Cloud from the frontlines while replaying older chapters, it is still a fun comp worth trying out. This team primarily focuses on spellcasting abilities with Yuffie and Aerith, with Barret being the tank and also equipped with certain materia to help fill up the team’s ATB gauges.
Aerith should be your primary spellcaster in this composition, as she can use her elemental spells to weaken enemies. Yuffie can also use Aerith’s abilities, such as her Arcane Ward, to her advantage, as it can allow her to cast bonus spells. As Yuffie’s kit is mostly based around utility rather than pure damage, Barret will also play a huge role in this composition as the primary damage dealer of the team. He can also use his Steelskin ability to tank damage for his team.
Synergy abilities for this composition aren’t too varied, and there are limited options when it comes to team-specific synergy moves, but there are still a few basic ones you can choose from. Aerith and Yuffie’s United Refocus can be useful for dividing the ATB gauge into three segments. Yuffie also has Ninjutsu-related skills that can be very effective if used in combination with Barret.
2
Cloud, Red XIII, And Barret
Pure Damage
This might be an unlikely trio, but it can work extremely well in almost all fights you encounter. Red XIII can be a tough character to learn, but once you get used to his fast-paced attacks and his Vengeance mode, he can be extremely lethal. He is also perfectly complemented in this party as he can take up an attacking role on the frontlines along with Cloud while Barret supports them.

8 Lingering Questions We Have After The End Of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
All the questions on our mind after playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
The main focus of this composition is to get Cloud and Red XIII as close to the enemies as possible. Both of these characters do immense physical damage, and they can take down most of the enemies in the game by themselves. Some of Red’s abilities, such as his Stardust Ray and Crescent Claw during Vengeance mode, are perfect for causing AoE damage and taking down multiple enemies at the same time. Barret’s role should be the same as in most other comps, and he should primarily be used for filling up the ATB gauges and providing long-range cover.
This composition has some of the best synergy abilities in the game. Red XIII and Cloud can use Savage Assault to close distance on their enemies and deal a lot of damage to them and also increase their limit levels in the process. Red XIII and Barret can also team up for Overfang, which lets Barret throw Red XIII towards their opponents to perform close-range attacks while Barret shoots bullets from a distance.
1
Cloud, Yuffie, And Red XIII
Late-Game Specialists
This party swaps Barret for Yuffie for her magical abilities, which makes this one of the best compositions we’ve come across for the late game in Rebirth. The main idea behind this composition is similar to the last one, but instead of Barret’s long-range cover, we use Yuffie to weaken enemies using magic-based materia. She is also quite good at combat, with her Ninjutsu skills making this a well-rounded team without many faults.
The Magnify Materia can also play a huge role in this composition, and you can put it on either Red XIII or Yuffie if you’re looking for party-wide heals as well as causing magic damage. Cloud can take up the frontlines in this team, with his high physical damage abilities, and he will always have constant support from Red XIII and Yuffie, in terms of healing, combat, and also magical abilities to weaken enemies.
Maelstrom Strike and Halcyon Descent are two of the best Synergy abilities for this composition, which teams up Cloud and Yuffie to land a lot of blows on enemies and cause plenty of damage. Hack And Slash is also a great Synergy ability for causing damage, combining the strengths of Red XIII and Yuffie.
