Ever since its release in Mythical Island, Gyarados ex has been wreaking havoc in the online rooms. Its powerful attack, Rampaging Whirlpool, is a hard-hitting move that can one-hit-KO most ex Pokemon while slowing down your strategy by possibly discarding some of your energy.

Pokemon Pocket: Which Is Better, Dialga ex Or Palkia ex?
Palkia and Dialga are the two mascots of Time-Space Smackdown, but which is the stronger card?
With the help of cards like Misty or Vaporeon, Gyarados ex is a menace once the small fish, Magikarp, evolves. Even if you have a way to kill Magikarp in your first turn, it can easily defend itself by Leaping Out with its attack to go to the bench and retain its energy. Make sure you’ve already crafted all of these cards if you’re looking to defeat this Water Pokemon in Pokemon Pocket.

Pikachu ex
Run Circles On Them
Pikachu ex is one of the most obvious choices to fight the mighty fish Pokemon. Being a Water type, it carries a Lightning weakness, making Pikachu’s fully powered Circle Circuit hit for 110 damage.
While this attack can’t one-hit-KO Gyarados ex, it is very energy efficient. Pikachu ex only requires two energy to get going, so if you manage to find the rest of the Lightning Pokemon to fill your bench, you’ll be able to beat Gyarados ex in the race for energy.
9
Magnezone
Gather All The Energy
Magnezone was heavily slept on since its release in Space-Time Smackdown. It can attack quite hard with Thunder Blast, dealing a whopping 130 damage to Gyarados ex. Just like Pikachu ex, this Pokemon can’t defeat Gyarados as easily, but with cards like Rocky Helmet and Giant Cape, you can get pretty dang close.
What makes Magnezone so great is its beefy 140 HP and the incredible Magneton ability, Volt Charge, giving you an extra energy every turn.
8
Hitmonlee
Destroy The Magikarp
While it may seem like an odd choice, Hitmonlee is a sleeper hit against Gyarados ex. For your opponent to use Gyarados, they’ll need to protect their Magikarp by having it bounce back to the bench if it is in any immediate danger. But what if your active Pokemon can deal damage to a benched Pokemon?

There are so many beautiful cards packed into the Space-TIme Smackdown set, so which Pokemon can boast that they’re the very best?
Hitmonlee does exactly enough damage to KO a benched Magikarp, forcing your opponent to pivot their strategy to their other Pokemon. They’ll probably try to keep their Magikarp in the active slot to play around Hitmonlee, but you could just as easily retreat and hit them with a powerful Lucario attack.

Cyrus
New Sabrina In Town
So what if they retreat their wounded Gyarados ex to protect and retry their setup? Just use the strongest trainer card in Space-Time Smackdown, Team Galactic’s very own Cyrus. Similar to Sabrina, Cyrus can make your opponent switch out their active Pokemon, but this time, their choice is reduced to only the Pokemon that have less than their max HP.
This Trainer card has replaced most Sabrinas in player’s lists, so if you’re looking to defeat Gyarados ex, and Rocky Helmet has already damaged it, then drag it back out to give it the work.
6
Pachirisu ex
New Way To Play Lightning
There aren’t many powerful Lightning Pokemon in Pokemon TCG Pocket, as they are mostly overshadowed by the mascot, Pikachu ex. Pachirisu ex is a close second since you don’t need too many hard-to-pull cards to support its strategy.
Pachirisu ex’s attack will deal 80 damage as long as it has a Tool card attached to it, making it easily make haste with Gyarados ex within two turns. Plus, the Tool cards already in the game make Pachirisu a bit more beefy, like Giant Cape.
5
Tauros
Pokemon ex Natural Counter
If you’re feeling frustrated by the amount of ex Pokemon you find in online play, then make sure that you’ve already crafted two Tauros cards to show them who’s boss.

These cards are useful tools.
Tauros’ expensive Fighting Tackle attack will deal 120 damage to ex Pokemon, making it a natural counter to Gyarados ex. The attack will be hard to set up, costing three Colorless energy, but it is an excellent way to stomp through the competition without committing to an expensive ex Pokemon.
4
Charizard ex
Best Big Attacker In The Game
Even though Charizard ex is weak to Gyarados ex’s attack, it will be able to withstand one of them and come back with a packed fist of revenge. Unlike the video games, Pokemon TCG Pocket does not have typing strengths, making Charizard’s Crimson Storm, one of the best attacks to deal with Gyarados.
The attack will make you discard a bit of energy, meaning you probably won’t be able to set up another one soon after, but it will at least take care of the giant fish.
3
Mew ex
Rampaging Whirlpool? No, You
How do you beat a Gyarados ex with a powerful attack that can possibly discard some of your energy, slowing your game plan down by a turn? Well, that’s easy. You do the same, but make it way cooler. Mew ex’s Genome Hacking attack will simply copy an attack of your opponent’s Pokemon.
With this, you’ll be able to use their tactics against them, but while using a better energy generator like Gardevoir, you won’t have to worry about losing some of your energy.
2
Aerodactyl ex
Prevent Your Opponent From Playing
Stall decks are not as good as aggro against Gyarados ex, since it gives them even more time to set up their Rampaging Whirlpool, but Aerodactyl ex is actually a better control Pokemon than most.

While it can’t hit as hard as most other Fightning-type Pokemon, Aerodactyl’s ability, Primeval Law, can prevent your opponent from evolving their Pokemon, shutting them down from going into Gyarados if they haven’t done so already. Just make sure you plan exactly when to evolve or Gyarados ex will easily defeat your fossil Pokemon.

Giant Cape
Big HP Equals Big Wins
Gyarados ex can hit pretty hard once your opponent sets up. It can one-hit-KO most Pokemon in the game, so coming into the online lobbies prepared will be helpful. One way to do that is with the incredible new Pokemon Tool cards.
Giant Cape, in particular, is one of the best since it can give your Pokemon 20 extra max HP, protecting your little guys from the Rampaging Whirlpool. With a little more HP, you’ll have a chance to make a comeback and decimate your competition.
