Summary

  • One Avowed player has already found a nod to a Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire companion.
  • They uncovered a letter written by said companion, giving us an insight into what their life is like post-Deadfire, as well as what their canon ending might be.

Avowed is currently in advanced access ahead of its full launch tomorrow, but already one player found a fun little nod to a Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire companion.

If you’d rather find this letter for yourself, avert your eyes now.

As pointed out by u/Azuri-Os, you can find a “Transcript of a Sermon” documenting a speech performed by Tekēhu, the Marine godlike who you can recruit at the Watershapers Guild in Huana. Before we unpack what his speech tells us, here’s the sermon in full:

Ondra. Ngati. Lady of Lament… Mother.

When you called so many godlike back to their divine source, many were spared. Passed over. What say you to those of us who remain? Are we to carry out some great deed in your honour? Are we to live our lives as mere mortals, deprived of your love? Or are we to await the day when we, too, are called home?

When I stood at the pinnacle of Ukaizo, I felt closer to the gods than ever before. Now… now they could not feel more distant.

Tekēhu Wasn’t Recalled By Ondra/Ngati

One of the most interesting reveals is that Tekēhu was one of the godlike not to be recalled by Ondra, which has left him forlorn and struggling to find meaning after his adventures with the Watcher. That also means he’s somewhere out there in the world of Eora still — maybe one day we’ll be reunited, eh?

We also learn that he is now the Master Watershaper, giving us an interesting insight into what happened to the Watershapers Guild. It has four different endings depending on the choices you make throughout Deadfire, and we can rule out at least one — it continues without him. He’s the Master, it clearly didn’t. The other endings were either that he tried to restore the guild, but struggled to teach the other acolytes, that the guild fell into permanent decline, or that Tekēhu embraced the traditions of the guild’s forgotten past with the knowledge he found at Ondra’s Spire.

Given that he references venturing to Ukaizo with the Watcher, where Ondra’s Spire lies, it seems likely that he embraced tradition and that the guild is thriving.
