Summary

  • Phil Spencer confirms Everwild is making progress, providing a positive update for eager gamers.
  • Rare’s upcoming game Everwild has been shrouded in mystery, with little information since its announcement.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has provided a surprising update on Rare’s upcoming game Everwild. The update is fantastic news for any gamer who has been looking forward to getting their hands on Everwild.

Everwild was first announced in November 2019, but has only shown up a handful of times since. The actual reason remains unknown, although there have been plenty of rumors over the years. It was even rumored back in 2021 that Everwild was a “mess” and had its development rebooted at Rare, which could explain why so little has been heard of the game since. At the moment, it’s the only announced project at Rare, so it isn’t as though the studio is occupied with much else at the same time.

Rare Could Start 2025 With a Bang

It’s been quite a few years since developer Rare released a new game, but it has the opportunity to re-reveal a project and start 2025 with a bang.

In a new interview with Xbox Era, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was asked about the upcoming video games that he’s looking forward to. After naming State of Decay 3 and the next Double Fine game, Spencer said of Everwild, “And the other one, I’ll say, because I was recently out at Rare. It’s nice to see the team with Everwild and the progress that they’re making… It has been [a while]. And we’ve been able to give those teams time in what they’re doing, which is good, and still have a portfolio like we have.”

Phil Spencer Claims Everwild Development is Making Progress

It’s only a small update, with confirmation from Spencer that Everwild continues to make progress. However, given how quiet the studio has been about the game, any news is good news. Rare itself gave a surprise acknowledgment of Everwild at the end of 2024 via a holiday greetings card, sparking some speculation that the developer might be set to reveal more about the game this year. That is yet to happen, but it’s very early days in the year yet.

Alongside the ongoing development of Everwild, Rare has also been busy continuing to update its hit title Sea of Thieves. Support continues for the title over six years after launch, which may explain why Everwild development is taking so long. The truth of the matter is probably a little more complicated than that, though. Hopefully, 2025 will be the year when Everwild is re-revealed to the world, although this is pure speculation.
