Finds some nuts, eats some nuts, kicks bad guuuuuys’ evil butts!

As a low-difficulty hero, she’s widely accessible to a major part of the player base, which, in turn, leaves a ton of room for discoveries on how to utilize her abilities. In the right hands, she’s a nutty Duelist indeed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t restrict her effectiveness with a few tips and tricks.

How To Counter Squirrel Girl

Squirrel Girl has one of the most lucrative abilities you’ll find — her damage output is incredible, her imprisonment allows for an easy kill, and she has an entire ability dedicated to alleviating cooldowns.

Her primary fire has explosive properties that can hit you even after bouncing over other surfaces, damaging fragile structures and multiple enemies at once. Although she’s not an assassin character, she likes to stay in the shadows and attack from a safe, far-off range.

What you’ll really need to watch for is her Squirrel Blockade ability; like Hulk’s Radioactive Lockdown, it imprisons the targets and makes them completely helpless to the high-damaging projectiles coming their way.

It lets Squirrel Girl hold her own against melee one-on-one encounters, and getting caught in the blockade at a bad time means using any last-resort mechanic you have to stay alive.

Considering her abilities, the gold standard for countering Squirrel Girl is to focus on your movement and dodge her slow attacks. Quicker heroes have a better chance than anyone of snuffing her out thanks to their erratic mobility, making it impossible for her to hit them.

Range is another aspect you can utilize. Because of their bouncy nature, connecting Squirrel Girl’s stuns and acorns at a longer distance is extremely challenging as they simply fall off. If you can pinpoint where she’s attacking from, you can use a character with a decent effective range to make sure she doesn’t hit you while you maintain your lethality.

How To Counter Squirrel Girl As A Vanguard

With the unbeatable Squirrel Girl’s power revolving around taking down beefy Vanguards, your strategies in this role should be focused on reinforcing defense. From that aspect, you certainly don’t need to look further than Doctor Strange and Magneto — these two can use their shields to block both Squirrel Girl’s attacks and stuns, making them the ideal pick for protecting teammates.

Doctor Strange can hover in the air to fully evade Squirrel Girl’s ult. Magneto can also do the same thing with his Metal Bulwark and Iron Bulwark abilities.

Melee play is generally something you should avoid when going up against Squirrel Girl as a Vanguard, but if you want to take the high-pressure route, Hulk does it better than anyone. His leap makes it easier to reach her if she’s hidden somewhere remote, while Radioactive Lockdown and Indestructible Guard abilities are more than he’ll ever need to turn the fight in his favor.

As a rule of thumb, you should keep some distance from your teammates whenever you encounter an aggressive Squirrel Girl. The last thing you want is for her to use your body as a reflective surface to damage nearby heroes, which is a method she normally applies to gather unsuspecting kills.

How To Counter Squirrel Girl As A Strategist

Although Squirrel Girl doesn’t have any hard counters among Strategists, there are a couple of tactics you can employ to escape her, particularly with stuns. Once you figure out where she is, Luna Snow’s Absolute Zero can easily shut her down, with Mantis’ Slumbering Spore working just as well at closer range. Their Ultimate Abilities can also fully negate her damage, including that of Squirrel Stampede.

If you want someone who can consistently out heal the damage she does, Loki is likely your top contender. Besides his healing, his clones play a critical role in distracting Squirrel Girl from the actual targets, soaking up her damage while your real teammates remain secure. On top of that, his invisibility lets him retreat when things get heated, and considering how slow Squirrel Girl’s attacks are, it works fairly well in most cases.

Loki’s clones can lure in Squirrel Girl’s stampede, saving your teammates from getting run over.

How To Counter Squirrel Girl As A Duelist

Like any hero, Squirrel Girl can’t hold up against foes she can’t hit, and there are a good lot of them among melee Duelists that fit the criteria. Magik, Black Panther, Wolverine, and Spider-Man are the prime counter picks in this role, having all the tools to sneak up to her for a quick kill and comfortably slip away if things don’t go as planned.

Magik and Spider-Man are especially strong here — the queen of Limbo’s Stepping Discs can let her get close to Squirrel Girl, and the standard Umbral Incursion combo is more than enough to land a final blow.

Spidey, on the other hand, can immobilize her first with his Get Over Here ability and deal a bucketload of damage afterward.

Hela and Hawkeye are exceptional choices among ranged Duelists, using their high single-shot attacks to land sudden hits that’ll shred a decent portion of Squirrel Girl’s HP.

Similarly, Iron Man and Storm can use vertical range to stay far outside her crosshairs. Of course, while Squirrel Girl’s tendency to remain indoors may make it harder to hit her as an aerial Duelist, you make up for it with the fact you’re completely immune to her Ultimate Ability.
