Shadow of the Depth is a roguelike set action game that features exploring the hidden dungeons and eliminating the monsters in the dark. It is a single-player game where you begin with Arthur, the default character. The dungeons have chapters.

Each chapter has three normal stages, and the last one is the Boss stage, where you engage in the boss battles. The game has a chapter-based progression system with immersive dark visuals and controls. The main gameplay involves moving forward in the dungeon and discovering the unlocked areas on the map.

As you move ahead, monsters will start attacking you as they see you. You need to kill all the monsters in that stage before your HP dies out. In the next stage, your life will be renewed as full. In between the combat, you’ll pick up and use items that include HP, Skill Book, and Weapons or even sell them.

There are mainly two game modes: Classic and Intense. The classic mode is the default game mode, where you go through full levels. At the same time, the intense mode is where you skip the first stage of each chapter but receive drops of a similar number to the Classic mode. Each mode will have six difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Advanced, Hard, Expert, and Nightmare.

The Easy and Normal levels have been available to play since the beginning. The other ones unlock after completing the previous difficulty level. For combat, you’ll have a joystick on the left for movement. On the right-hand side, you’ll have buttons to perform tasks that include Evade, Attack, Combo, Special Skill, Ultimate Skill, Passive Skill, and more.

The Evade button is to dodge attacks from enemies. The Attack button unleashes the normal attack of your character. There are separate controls for some characters to perform combo attacks as well. The skill buttons appear as you pick them up during your fight in the dungeon.

Shadow of the Depth Basics

Dungeon

The Dungeon is the area where your character faces the monsters. As you move forward in the dungeon, you’ll discover more dark and hidden areas within. There are teleportation portals that help you to teleport to other locations in the dungeon. The Wheel of Fortune allows you to choose one item out of the three.

There are three Rest Spots in the dungeon where you can pause your battle and rest for a while. They are Weapon Statue, Rune Statue, and Recovery Statue. You can also buy items with coins in the dungeon. There are seal stones at certain level exits, and attacking them summons the monsters. You must defeat the monsters to move to the next level.

Character

The Characters can be accessed from the diamond icon on the top right of the start screen. You can see the characters that haven’t been unlocked apart from the default character, Arthur. As of now, the game has five characters:

Shadow of the Depth Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks

1. Choose the Correct Skill

During the match, you’ll get skill books as rewards after killing the monsters in a particular dungeon stage. These skill books have two or three skills to choose from. There could be passives, ultimates, and others.

You must select the skill that fulfills the need of the next stage, where monsters will be more in number and powerful. The game also gives you a few reroll options if you’re not satisfied with the skill options initially displayed.

2. Upgrade your Talents

Talents are extra benefits you can get during combat. You can unlock and upgrade the talents in the Preparation Panel. The game allows you to toggle them on or off once you’ve unlocked the talents. You can upgrade the Talents using the Talent Points. These Points can be achieved upon leveling up. Upgrading your Talents before facing the monsters of the dark would be beneficial in defeating them more easily.

3. Fuse the Runes

Runes are enhancements that add buffs or new abilities to your character. We have four different types of runes in the game. They can be equipped or replaced from the Preparation Panel. Fusing similar Runes using the Fuse feature further improves the quality of the runes. You can benefit even more with the powered-up or fused runes than the regular ones. So, make sure to enhance them when you have the chance.

4. Sell the Unnecessary Item

After killing the monsters or getting reward chests in the dungeon, you can pick up items in the chest. If you pick a similar type of item that you already carry, you’ll need to replace it with the one you have.

You must keep the item that has more powerful attributes and drop the other one. When you drop, don’t ignore it and rather sell it to earn coins. You can use these coins to purchase HP, skill books, or other weapons within the dungeon.

5. Use Teleport Portals

At any stage of the dungeon you enter, you’ll witness a couple or more portals. These portals help you to reach a far away distance on the map in a few seconds with other discovered portals. Using the portals can save you time and can also save you from the storm of enemies in case you’re unable to fight them at the moment. You can reach a different zone within the dungeon to reach the monsters easily as well.
