Ubisoft has announced Rainbow Six Siege X as a “major evolution” for the game that’s not quite a sequel but is seemingly much more than an update.
Although the past few years have been undeniably rough for Ubisoft thanks to a slew of high-profile disappointments like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora (as well as games it deems undersellers like The Lost Crown), the studio does have some reliable titles. Perhaps the biggest example of this is Rainbow Six Siege.
Ever since Rainbow Six Siege first launched, it’s been one of Ubisoft’s biggest and most consistent success stories. As beloved as the game is in its current state, it looks like the developers are taking things to the next level thanks to an overhaul called Rainbow Six Siege X that’s teased as a “major evolution” of the game.
Rainbow Six Siege X Teased, Full Reveal Coming Next Month
Earlier today following the Rainbow Six Siege Invitational, Ubisoft posted a teaser to its YouTube channel for Rainbow Six Siege X, which appears to be a big update for the game that’s going to overhaul it in many ways. The teaser itself is very short and doesn’t really tell us much aside from the fact that a full reveal for the “new era” is happening on March 13 at the Siege X Showcase.
As confirmed by a Ubisoft blog post, the teaser offered “glimpses of the biggest transformation in the game’s history” through some new graphical and audio upgrades. We’ll get to see how X offers “deepened tactical gameplay and new ways to play the game” at the full reveal, but it sounds like it’s going to be quite a big change for Siege.
While the teaser didn’t do much beyond show some improved graphics, game director Joshua Mills offered a bit more information on Rainbow Six Siege X while announcing it onstage. As reported by Insider Gaming, Mills claimed that X isn’t Siege 2, but that it’s more than “another update” and is in fact a major evolution.
It is not Siege 2, and it’s not just another update. It’s a major evolution. We’re expanding and reinforcing the very foundation of Siege to ensure it remaisn the pinnacle of tactical PvP first-person shooters. – Joshua Mills
Mills also said that Rainbow Six Siege X will expand and reinforce the foundation of Siege to keep it in at the height of tactical first-person shooters. The director cited the audio and graphical changes while also pointing out that it’ll have “refined game-feel” and new ways to play the game as a whole.
