Square Enix has been making and publishing video games since 2003, including popular franchises like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. Recently, they’ve even taken to remaking (and making better) some of their more popular games, like Final Fantasy 7, which technically increases the number of games that they’ve published.

How Many Final Fantasy Games Are There?
Here we attempt to count just how many Final Fantasy games there actually are.
We know how many Final Fantasy games they’ve remade, but it might leave you wondering just how many games they’ve made in total, including all of those Final Fantasy games. Of course, not every game has made international shelves, with some only seeing releases in certain regions – they’ll still be counted for the grand total, however.
Before 2003
For a quick clarification, there are games that you might see dedicated to “Square” or “Enix” before 2003, and if you’re confused, that’s perfectly fine. Square Enix, itself, was formed in 2003 after Square, also known as SquareSoft on the international market, (a game development company) merged with Enix, a Japanese publisher.
Together, the two companies came together on April 1, 2003, to form Square Enix, a game development and publishing company that was capable of competing on both the national and international scale. As such, the company Square Enix technically didn’t start publishing until 2003 – even if its two predecessors were in full operation before then and were creating games like the original Final Fantasy 7 (originally published in 1997).
Square Enix Has Published Around 300 Games
Since 2003, Square Enix has published around 300 games which is, frankly, a lot of games. Of course, this count can vary depending on what you count as a brand new game and whether or not you would count something like Square Enix AI Tech Preview: The Portopia Serial Murder Case as a game or not.
Especially given that it’s, genuinely, just an AI Tech Preview working off of a game from 1983. Some of the games in this count are remakes, which seems to be the trend with gaming companies but, when it comes to remakes like the Final Fantasy 7 trilogy, you could almost argue that they’re entirely new games, completely revamped and with additional content.
Some, like the Dragon Quest HD-2D remakes, Dragon Quest 12, and Kingdom Hearts 4 are still on their way, set to be released in 2025 or later.
Region-Specific Releases
Sometimes companies will only release games in the market that they’ll perform the best in (or that they think they’ll perform the best in). Square Enix is no stranger to not letting every game be internationally published, with around 99 games being published only in Japan.
However, only six games were not released in Japan and were, instead, only published on international shelves. Given that Square Enix is a Japanese company, these numbers are pretty par for the course. However, recent trends have shown that more and more games are receiving international releases and re-releases, rather than being a Japan-only release.
