10:10 Games, the developer behind last year’s Funko Fusion title, has reportedly been hit with major layoffs after what is being called internally a “complete commercial and critical failure.” As a result, over a dozen employees have been let go from the United Kingdom-based video game studio.

News of 10:10 Games’ layoffs comes from a report from Insider Gaming, which states that employees found out about the impending layoffs in mid-January, with staffers being told that they would be “fully supported through this process,” according to people interviewed. The report further states that “no real severance package” was being offered. Instead, the impacted employees received what one called “the bare legal minimum.”

I’m excited to see these stories in Funko form, even if the game isn’t that great…

The failure of the studio’s first major release prevented the company from securing funding for future projects, leading to the aforementioned layoffs.

Funko Fusion Quietly Released Last Year

Funko Fusion, the game based off the popular vinyl figures of the same name, was released in September to mostly middling reviews, including a 54 on Metacritic. In true Funko fashion, the game boasted crossovers with several popular IPs, including Jurassic Park, The Walking Dead and even an appearance from Mega Man. There was also a real-life promotion involving KFC and its mascot, Colonel Sanders.

Perhaps most noteworthy, beyond its many pop culture luminaries, was the fact that its developer, 10:10 Games, was founded by Arthur Parsons and Jon Burton, two former leads at Traveller’s Tales, the studio behind the highly successful LEGO games. Naturally, Funko Fusion wore that inspiration and lineage on its sleeve.

While there is almost no perfect time to release a game, Funko Fusion did launch in a rather packed month. In September alone, Astro Bot, NBA 2K25, Space Marine 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom were all released, among other titles. Chalk it up to stiff competition or too broad of an idea, but the game didn’t perform as expected, and the devs behind it have been reportedly laid off as a result.
