Summary
- Boss weaknesses vary, Frostbite can help in some fights.
- Certain tactics and weapons can make tough bosses easier.
- Preparation, understanding enemy patterns key to victory.
Dark Souls 3 has some of the hardest and most formidable bosses in the entire trilogy. While the bosses in the original Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 also put players skills to the test, they never felt as well developed, programmed or erratically telegraphed (in a good way), as those present in the third installment. They can all be defeated using different builds, including those that harness great Dexterity weapons, so it all comes down to players’ preferences.

Dark Souls 3 may be a tough game, but these weapons will make things a little easier for players.
Every boss in Dark Souls 3 has a certain weakness, resistance, and immunity to a status effect, and it’s up to players to discover which is which. Imbuing Straight Swords, Greataxes, and other weapons with said elements and status effects can go a long way in making even the hardest fight easier. Here are all the bosses in Dark Souls 3 that are weak to Frostbite.

Iudex Gundyr
An Early Challenge That Requires Patience
HP |
1,037 |
Drops |
Coiled Sword, 3,000 Souls |
Location |
Cemetery of Ash |
Iudex Gundyr is the first skill-check that players will encounter during their playthrough, as he appears during the first few minutes of exploring the Cemetery of Ash and must be defeated to gain access to the Firelink Shrine. In the game, there are two different versions of this boss. The first one players will encounter is simply known as Iudex Gundyr, whereas the second one is called Champion Gundyr and is considerably harder in every sense of the word.
By defeating Champion Gundyr, players will get the option to exchange his soul for Gundyr’s Halberd, which is arguably one of the best boss weapons in the game. Unfortunately, only Iudex Gundyr is weak to Frostbite, as Champion Gundyr seems to be mostly unaffected by this status effect.
4
Ancient Wyvern
A Formidable Foe That Can Be Killed In A Single Hit
HP |
7,873 |
Drops |
Dragon Head Stone, 70,000 Souls |
Location |
Archdragon Peak |
The Ancient Wyvern is a very particular boss in Dark Souls 3, as it can be very challenging to defeat unless players use a peculiar tactic that not everyone knows exists. This boss is located in Archdragon Peak, which is an optional area that’s really easy to miss. In it, players will have to face tons of different draconic enemies and even the formidable Nameless King.

The good news is that if players decide to take on the Ancient Wyvern traditionally, using Frostbite to exploit its weakness is possible. Using a Greatsword paired with the Frost status effect is an excellent choice that incorporates good range with elemental damage. If players don’t want to overcomplicate things, it’s also possible to climb to a high point in Archdragon Peak and drop on the Ancient Wyvern’s head to deliver a single lethal blow.
3
Dragonslayer Armour
Quick, Relentless, And Overall Imposing Due To Its Massive Size
HP |
4,581 |
Drops |
Soul of Dragonslayer Armour, 48,000 Souls |
Location |
Lothric Castle |
There are many things that are both scary and interesting about Dragonslayer Armour. For starters, while it’s not gigantic, it does have a formidable size that makes the Ashen One look tiny. This plays a key psychological role in the entire boss fight that players will have to learn to shake off.
On top of this, the armor seems to be controlled by the Pilgrim Butterflies that are flying around the boss arena and the entirety of Lothric Castle. Luckily, using Frostbite against the Dragonslayer Armour is very effective and can help make the encounter much simpler. Upon defeating it, players will have the option to trade its soul for the Dragonslayer Greatshield or the Dragonslayer Greataxe, which is one of the best in the game.
2
Lothric, Younger Prince
One Of The Two Last Lords Of Cinder Players Must Take Down
HP |
5,799 |
Drops |
Cinders of a Lord and Soul of the Twin Princes, 85,000 |
Location |
Grand Archives |
The story of the Twin Princes is both tragic and complex. However, there’s unfortunately no way to progress through the game without killing them, so their demise is unavoidable. During the first part of this boss fight, players will have to face Lothric, the younger Prince, and then his older brother, Lorian, will join in during the second phase, and they will attack the Ashen One together. .

Slave Knight Gael
The Ultimate Challenge Of The Ringed City DLC
HP |
15,037 |
Drops |
Soul of Slave Knight Gael, Blood of the Dark Soul, 120,000 Souls |
Location |
Filianore’s Rest |
Lastly, there’s Slave Knight Gael, who is needed to enter the Ashes of Ariandel DLC and serves as the final boss of The Ringed City DLC. Gael’s first phase is not particularly difficult. However, once half his health bar is gone, he will start attacking the Ashen One erratically and with relentless speed.
On top of this, he has a crossbow that will keep players on their toes at all times. Ensuring that players have collected every Undead Bone Shard available in the game to maximize their Estus Flasks’ HP regeneration potential is key. Those who like the lore behind FromSoftware’s games will most definitely want to read about Slave Knight Gael to discover who he is, why he finds himself in his dire situation, and more interesting details about him.
