Fantasy RPGs and modding are inseparable. Games like The Witcher 3, Skyrim, and Baldur’s Gate 3 are constantly getting new creations from dedicated fans, and Avowed is no different. Obsidian Entertainment’s latest is only available in advanced access right now, but you can already improve the overall experience with some truly transformative mods. In fact, one creator is hard at work making tweaks both big and small, and you need to check them out.
Modder ‘Caites’ has a collection of Avowed mods available right now, and each offers a welcome overhaul to a different part of the new RPG. First up, you can make the game’s unskippable death scene shorter, so your demise doesn’t last nearly as long. Caites says they’ve dropped it from eight seconds to two, meaning you can fall in battle a lot more and feel less bad about it.
Another mod from Caites also greatly improves the effectiveness of each member of your party. The ‘Better Companions’ mod takes aim at how each contributes to a fight, but still makes you the most powerful. Every Avowed companion’s base attacks will be twice as strong, and they get an extra 50% HP. You can also make them do ten times more damage and have five times more HP, but the former option is what you want for a more balanced experience.
If you keep finding yourself lugging around so much junk in Avowed that it’s weighing you down, Caites has an encumbrance mod just for you. You can double your in-game carry weight (or times it by 100), and points invested in Might will still add 10% to that total. You can also remove the penalty to walking or jogging while over-encumbered, which was always my downfall when playing Fallout 3.

You can also download a Caites mod that improves how your attributes work, and potentially even give yourself two points per level. This means your Dexterity, Resolve, Constitution, Perception, Intellect, and Might all have bigger bonuses. You’ll gain extra stamina, crit chances, carry weight, base HP, and more per level, making you a true force to be reckoned with.
The latest mod from Caites also helps you breathe underwater for much longer, making exploration beneath the waves even easier than before. You can also unlock all of the Avowed abilities, including strength, agility, and intellect at level two with another mod, if you really want to decimate anyone in your path.
Considering you can tweak a few of these mods, you can easily plug any gaps you currently have in your Avowed experience. I’m sure Caites has more planned, too, so you’ll want to check out their modding profile to check out everything they’ve made so far.
If you’re just getting started in the Living Lands make sure you check out the Avowed map. We also have the best Avowed builds for when you’re just starting out.
