Set to release in March 2025, Fallout 76’s playable Ghoul and Season 20 update is fast approaching. While there’s no exact release date for this update yet, it’s expected to arrive on a Tuesday when Fallout 76’s weekly reset occurs, making March 4 or March 11 seem like highly likely release dates. With this update coming soon, players should know what to expect based on everything officially announced so far and what’s been available on Fallout 76’s Public Test Server, as well as the latest news from leaks/data mines.
While the new playable Ghoul character will be a big moment for the Fallout franchise, even players who don’t want to transform their character into a Ghoul can still look forward to several other features coming in this update. Fallout 76 Will Let Players Transform Their Character into a Ghoul
- Ghouls will have access to exclusive traits and buildcrafting tools, including new Perk Cards, new Legendary Perk Cards, natural radiation immunity, new Glow and Feral mechanics, and removed hunger/thirst
- The Ghoul transformation process and questline will become available once players reach level 50
- The Ghoul transformation process will be reversible
- Transforming into a Ghoul will present unique world and quest interactions
The initial questline added in this update will be accessible to all players. However, some of the new locations coming in this update will only be accessible to players who transform their character into a Ghoul.
Ultimately, this first-ever playable Ghoul character will be a major milestone for the Fallout franchise that could potentially pave the way for future Fallout games to continue to experiment with a wider variety of playable characters. Specific to Fallout 76, this new playable character will present a whole new way to experience the Appalachian wasteland via new meta Ghoul builds in Fallout 76, as well as distinct interactions during questlines and NPC encounters.
Fallout 76’s Season 20 SCORE Rewards Data Mine
Ahead of Fallout 76’s upcoming Season 20, all of the unique SCORE rewards have already been datamined via Nuka Knights. Overall, the focus of this Season will be Ghoul-themed rewards, such as player icons, armor paints, weapon paints, outfits, and CAMP decorations in Fallout 76.
More Combat Balancing Changes Coming to Fallout 76
Fallout 76’s March 2025 update will also include a variety of balancing changes, notably for Perk Cards, pistol builds, and the Furious legendary weapon effect – which is being reworked to the new “Onslaught” mechanic. Aside from the new Ghoul-exclusive and Onslaught Perk Cards coming in this update, several existing Perk Cards will be rebalanced, generally with improved scaling and/or reduced SPECIAL cost. Meanwhile, the existing Perk Cards for pistol builds are being removed and pistol builds in Fallout 76 will receive significant buffs to account for this.
